Mormon Faith Debate

"The Mormon Way" [November 12] interview with Mormon Church Elder M. Russell Ballard about matters of general interest and controversial aspects of the faith was enlightening.

At its conclusion, when the question was asked if presidential candidate Mitt Romney had sought the church's advice in any way regarding his presidential bid, his answer was no. Fact is, as a Mormon, I can attest this is a church of solid family values, a belief in Jesus Christ, and a dedication to hard work, self-reliance, and helping others. All qualities I suspect America could use about now.

I'm sure you will get a plethora of letters on this interview, but historical Christianity has always been monotheistic. In that aspect, Christianity is more closely related to Judaism and Islam than to Mormonism. Protestants and Catholics believe God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are one God. That is one of the reasons many consider the Latter-day Saints to be a religion separate from Christianity.

Gary H. Boyd is a 75 year old Scottsdale resident who is a constant writer of letters to the editor. Obviously he has much money to gain by pushing his conservative agenda. Today (6/14/11) he wrote that Obama can't get the economy going. If one takes a look at finance charts on finance.yahoo.com or finance.google.com for the past 2 years they will see an explosive growth of the stock market. To see what mental faculties Boyd and other conservatives lack, just google anterior cingulate cortex conservatives and amygdala conservatives. They are also impervious to facts per the 1950s book THE AUTHORITARIAN PERSONALITY.
