Candidate Quandary

In "The Politicians, the Posturing and the Policy" [September 17], you report that Hillary Clinton "concedes that the troop surge may be working in some areas like Anbar province."

The situation in Anbar province is unlike the situation in the rest of Iraq. The Sunni majority in Anbar has pacified itself by fighting al Qaeda instead of U.S. troops. The surge has little to do with the decision on the part of the Sunnis.

All the presidential candidates have maintained their postures and policies long before their candidacies. This country and the world are constantly changing. Whoever becomes president must constantly re-evaluate the domestic and global situations to fit U.S. needs.
