There have been many comments about the safety of products made in China; most of them centered on the consumers ["A Fresh Look in China's Toxic Toy Chest," August 27].
I wonder if anyone is worried about the Chinese workers, many of them youngsters. Those workers seem more "defenseless" than the "parents on the receiving end of the global economy."
As a concerned grandparent, i have emptied out my grandkids' toy chests that we keep for their frequent visits to our home. Since American import companies seem incapable of ensuring safe products, my lovely grandchildren will now be limited to educational books and tapes and what few American-produced products are available. Unless China becomes more concerned with product safety, I won't risk the health of my grandchildren.
