Congress should ask our coalition partners to assemble a team of military experts to submit a second report on the military situation and a team of political experts to submit to Congress a second report on the political situation.

General Petraeus and his September report to Congress certainly have gotten much attention. Maybe he is the very best, but he is no magician who can make conditions in Iraq disappear. Nor can he alter the tragic and inevitable consequences caused by our invasion.
