What an Obama sycophant. The current president gets flak and this commentator goes into a rage. We have a sick, compromised media in this country.

You are completely incorrect about the War Powers Act. It DEFINES War as putting armed forces into "hostilities" or where they would be imminent, and specifically says that the President may only do so from 1) Declaration of War, 2) Authorization by Act of Congress or 3) if we're attacked.

Yes, he may act alone if attacked, but it's not the threat of attack or imminent attack, it's IF ATTACKED.

The mistake you and many make about 48 hours notification 60 days fighting and 30 days withdrawal is what he is required to do AFTER sending forces in VIA ONE OF THE THREE INSTANCES STATED ABOVE.

It's Section 2(c). That's why Obama only said his reporting was "consistent" to the act.

The UN Participation Act of 1945 (a US law)allows a President to negotiate an agreement that MUST be authorized by Congress. If they call out forces via Article 42, he may act without their authorization PURSUANT TO an agreement that they've already authorized. He cannot, in any circumstance, send in the troops without Congress' Authorization, PERIOD. It's not well worded, but it's undeniable: he can only send them in without getting FURTHER approval from Congress IF HE ALREADY HAS THEIR AUTHORIZATION.

He is specifically in violation of both of these, and hence, the Constitution.

Ya know what? I'm a left-liberal Democrat; I just like the law. The more people allow addle-headed hearsay incorrectness to hold sway, the more we condone and enable trigger-happy Presidents. Look it up: I'm undeniably and clearly CORRECT about this, and you are WRONG.

Please have the decency to post a correction; if not, you're deliberately deceptive in a realm where lives are being spent.

Nice language- is that the best you can do... why bother commenting at all. If you have nothing intelligent to write- how about not writing anything at all.

Dakota of NJ 10:55AM March 25, 2011

Not seeing how your comment has anything to do with the lie that Bush used to push Congress to approve the Iraq War...He lied and Congress approved. Your quotation just gives the rules by which a President has to abide by- and so Bush did follow the guidelines but he used lies to convince the Congress to approve- your quotation does not rebut that- not sure of your point....

Dakota of NJ 10:53AM March 25, 2011

Interesting- how in your comments while you mention all of the money this action is costing the US but you never mention the cost of the Iraq or Afghanistan War- why is that?

What is your rebuttal to the comment that Bush declared war on a nation based on a lie? And without the United Nations approval?

And the statement that if the citizenss don't like their government than they should take care of the problem themselves- really?? Hmmmmm, Why are we in Iraq and Afghanistan again? Something about a dictator and the Taliban???

Why is it that no matter what this President does- the same people have something negative to say- if Obama ignored the conflict that would have been worng - if he does something about the issue he is still wrong. I am so tired of your nonsensical comments and name calling ie Democ- rat (how childish). Do you really read what you are writing because it doesn't seem to make much sense. Basically it is ok for a Republican politian to do anything but if the democrat politian does a similar action than it is the crisis of the century- do I have the idea now?

And to say this nation is in worse shape is ridiculous- it is no worse today than it was when a Republican was President- if you disagree- give some credible reasons instead of the immature name calling.

You have twisted the facts to your favor

Where was you righteous disdain when Saddam Hussein gassed his own citizens?

To use "genocide" as a premise for war means that every incident involving "genocide" should be the prelude to war. China commits genocide called political cleansing. N. Korea commits genocide by impoverishing and starving its people. The United States commits genocide by allowing immoral women to butcher and slaughter their innocent children. The list goes on.

Furthermore, if the people of these nations dislike their government then they can do something about it. It's not the United States job to run to the rescue of every slight committed in the world.

Furthermore, you liberals are keen on the idea that the world is overpopulated. Considering your lack of sanctity for life (abortion) one would think you'd applaud and support efforts to cure the herd.

1. By tying our involvement to a UN resolution and not leading the effort by Congressional resolution the Democ-rat Party president has subordinated America's interest to those with potential conflicts, e.g. France, Italy and the UK.

2. Joe "Big Mouth" Biden actually threatened President Bush with impeachment for doing what his Democ-rat Party president is doing today with his assistance.

3. Just TODAY, US News has detailed the high cost of this WAR, and it is a WAR!

4. The Democ-rat Party, particularly the wing of it that carried Obama to victory in the primaries over Hillary Witch was against Iraq even when the American people, including Hillary Witch, Kerry and Edwards supported Iraq.

5. While he and his bureaucrats prohibit more exploration for American oil the Democ-rat Party president is in Brazil assisting that nation with offshore drilling financing including the use of oil rigs which were off America's coast ready to drill before his unionized bureaucrats prohibited it.

6. According to a credible intelligence report, the highest per capita number of al-Quida terrorists in Iraq came from the part of Libya that is the base of this civil war in which we are intervening. In Egypt this weekend there as an election where Nobel Prize winner Mohammed el-Baradi was prevented from voting by the Moslem Brotherhood fanatics there. In Bahrain the Democ-rat Party administration is supporting the pro-Iranian Shia against the government that allows the US Fleet port facilities. We still don't know the nature of the people our intervention is favoring but the portents are not good.

From the Frank Sinatra of 1960 singing "He has high hopes," to "Hope and Change," the Democ-rat Party is a total mess and since 1968 has been dominated by forces within the United States hostile to American values and interests.

I have to wonder, you leftist/liberal/progressives incessantly maintained that Maggie Thatcher was not a real woman because of her tough politics and because she waged war like a man not peace like a woman(with the same twisted reasoning that made Bill the first black president).

So, does that mean Hillary, Rice and Power are not real women either but rather men? Is Obama, much like Gore, really a woman because of his love of peace, the environment, abortion, gay rights and his unending victimhood? If so does that make Mischelle the first lesbian first lady (if you don't accept the dubious premise that Elenaor Roosevelt or Hillary were the first) or would Hillary's status as a man make her the first gay first lady (man trapped in a woman's body and all that) and would this make Bill the first gay black president?

It's so confusing Leslie, could you please explain it all to us? I mean, you being so enlightened and smart and all.....

Michael 7:09AM March 24, 2011

Oh poor little Marshall, did someone say something mean about your latest man-boy crush? How can we not see how wise and far above us your god-president is! If only us common folk were smart like you! There are so many things wrong with your love letter I don't know where to start. Do you even know what genocide means woman-child - because these are Libyans taking on rebel Libyans, NOT a genocide by any definition that I am aware of. This guy in the White House is completely rudderless and you and your Kool-Aid drinking toadies are once again throwing a hissy fit and going into full personal attack and destruction mode.

The Germans (pulled out), French (reject US leadership), English, Russians, Chinese, Arabs, Japanese, Latin Americans, Israel etc. etc. must all be wrong when it comes to the chaos that is Obama's "policy" in the Middle East and his general incompetence and lack of presence on the world stage. Tell me, Leslie, do you even bother to read the world press because left and right they have been screaming for a year that amateur hour is over baby, its time for the US to show even a hint of leadership beyond apologies and Obama-worship. By the way, I will put both Bushs' well-constructed, twice-as-large,durable and strongly led coallitions up against Obama's rag tag gang any day - for professionalism, clarity and respect Obama loses in and out of the UN (not the deciding body for our foreign policy, by the way) and in Congress big time! With a Bush, agree or disagree, you knew where he stood. Who has any idea what this gang is doing beyond tomorrow, they don't that's for sure.

I guess the lack of love in Latin America (read protests not covered in the main stream press in the US but shown here in Europe) that led to him cutting his trip short (apparently the big opening wasn't that important to him after all Leslie)is because your object of affection is misunderstood by the masses in Brazil etc. Didn't they see the picture of him with the halo standing in front of Jesus?? You would think that after opening our border to free immigration by gun wielding drug czars (theirs, not his) that they would love him. Especially after filing suits against our own States!

Hillary is abandoning ship even if Obama by some miracle wins again (say, for example, the Republicans right the economy for him) - she doesn't want to work for a guy who can't decide whether it's Tuesday or Wednesday (her words through a source, not mine, Leslie) Inspiring how his own SecDef, Gates, labels Obama's leadership as putting this war-thing together on the fly. And make no mistake Leslie, Americans are dropping bombs and getting shot at, and even though your liberal/progressive elite see all American soldiers as war criminals, they are our sons and daughters and this is very much a war. Belittle their sacrifice all you want, they deserve at least that much respect.
