Conservatives Money is trying steal our democratic republic by trying to use their purchased pol and astroturf clones to create a bunch of phony issues.

Notice how the Conservatives are trying to take away our rights, especially when it interferes with the moneyed backers, lining up to roll back the Constitutional right faster than a GOP pol will jump thru a hoop for money.

There is nothing patriotic about these scum trying to roll back the Constitution.

Let's not forget when Fox News gives money to Republicans its Saudi Arabian money bankrolling corruption in our elections.

“Repealing the 14th Amendment to blame these babies for the sin of their parent or parents is more than political posturing; it’s un-American.”

How are they punishing the babies ? They did not get a free ride is punishing ? Mom got a free baby and we paid for delivery. Likely more. Was us being punished by mom.

Is not a brown issue nor hate (obviously) issue. But what is right issue. Was protest on the Arizona law when wrongly interpreted. There is a pattern here.

I suppose breaking the law by sneaking in illegally and corruption at the highest levels of our government in enforcing law is what the rather manipulative author would call "American"?

Many scholars say that illegal aliens are "subject to the jurisdiction" of their home countries, and that jackpot baby citizenship is merely a custom. That makes sense; rewarding crime does not, and illegal entry is a crime.

There is more to interpreting laws than merely reading the literal language of a law. If the wording is ambiguous, due to changes in circumstance or idiomatic usage, one should try to ascertain the intent. It is unlikely the authors of the 14th intended for Mexican border sneaks to achieve the great benefit of US citizenship for their babies through illegal activity. There is probably a principle of law that looks askance at people obtaining benefits through illegal activity. Nor could the authors have predicted we'd have presidents as corrupt and unpatriotic as Obama who refuse to enforce the law in the hope of skewing demographics to the advantage of Democrats in future elections.

I came to this country LEGALLY over 32 years ago. I never overstayed my visa, have always paid taxes and observed the law of the land. I'm not an American by birth but by choice. I haven't or will ever renounce my ethnicity or my roots. I love this country deeply, even more than my country of origin. My children were born in Texas and now I’m seeing a second generation of US born grand kids. We assimilated to this culture as much as possible, learning what America is all about. It breaks my heart that only brown skinned people are made the subject of the immigration hatred. There are all kinds of illegal aliens of German, British, Finn, Norwegians, etc that are not subject to any discrimination because they’re white. I agree that most of my people doesn’t intend to be part of America and they don’t care for it. I resent that as much as anybody. However, don't let bigotry and prejudice triumph over the merciful people most Americans are.

The 14th Amendment was never intended to promote anchor babies. Amending the 14th Amendment could simply clarify that portion which has become distorted by judicial whimsy and vote whoring.

Just what is American and what is un American these days? After living long enough to have once lived through what was considered American standards and ideals, I really don't recognize my country anymore. So many people have come to this country with the expressed ideals to change it to look more like the country they came from, really what is "American?"

The application of "civil rights" to apply to anything and everything from important issues to garbage prevails. Everyone has their rights, even if it is illegal. Americans are really in most cases not Americans. They are people who live here who want to drag their home country's laws and ideals with them. To hell with being American, they are all hypenated dwellers.

As far as I can tell, it's pretty much every special interst group for themselves.

I was asked for a donation yesterday at the store. I informed the checker that my own personal preferences for charity have been taken over by King Obama. Contact him and see if he will agree to contribute my money that he steals from me to their cause. I'm out of the loop.

Neither Lindsey Graham or Jon Kyl have said that they want to "repeal the 14th Amendment."

Jim of CA 12:03PM August 25, 2010

At least they want to change the law - they don't even follow the laws we already have up there in congress! Sounds fairly "American" to follow a consitutionally mandated process - which would be fairly difficult.

It's not really a mystery about how this would effect past citizenship. It would be phased into effect and wouldn't effect anyone born at this time. I imagine having one parent as a citizen would be included as allowing you to gain citizenship. Why is this so crazy? Harry Reid even supported it not very long ago:
