I as well as my friends ended up going through the nice information located on your web blog and then before long came up with a terrible suspicion I had not expressed respect to the web site owner for those strategies. These ladies are already so stimulated to study them and have in fact been using those things. Appreciation for truly being well considerate as well as for making a decision on varieties of brilliant subject matter millions of individuals are really wanting to discover. Our honest apologies for not expressing appreciation to you earlier.

Maybe Wayne has some skeletons in his closet. He's human, so he can't be perfect. I agree there is risk in setting up athletes as role models and only disappointment in idolizing them. All that said, if you want to point to an athlete who is second to none in talent, commitment to sport and accomplishment, who has consistently shown grace and class over four decades of spotlight, do some reading about Mr. Gretzky.

That of course is based on what we can know about the man. But he, unlike many others, has earned the benefit of the doubt.

As for who should be a child's role model, how about Mom and Dad step up? There's also a very nice holiday coming up, which despite distraction from Walmart, BestBuy and oh... Nike, Tag and Buick... could serve as a reminder of a worthy role model.

GO read a book, skim through history...find a real role model. MLK. Ghandi. The World's Most Interesting Man, from the Dos Equis beer commercials :D

No but seriously..Read about Nikolai Tesla. Read about Claude Levi-Strauss. Teach your kids about these people, differentiate athletes and role models. Show them how to compete and train at the highest level as an athlete and teach them to have progressive minds like the people mentioned above.

I LOVE Tiger for what he does on the course for what he represents as the ultimate athlete the ultimate competitor and the ultimate money maker. THAT's IT!

AJ, thanks for your reply. No one is saying what he did was not immoral, it was disgusting. If people can't raise their kids and teach them the difference between an athlete who makes a ton of money and a true role model like a war veteran or a philanthropist then thats the parents' fault. Of course he will learn from his mistakes, but he will also choose how to change whether to be the same scum bag and hide it better or be a real man and grow from this and become a better human. SO YES, that is what I KNOW! It's common sense. I grew up like most kids idolizing Michael Jordan and what he did on and off the basketball court. But as I grew older I realized through "COMMON KNOWLEDGE" and common sense that he was just an athlete being promoted as a GOD! Even though I DO agree that he is the greatest athlete to ever live, I also know that he is not a real role model in the sense of being a great person. Maybe a role model to becoming the absolute athlete, the absolute competitor. So I say all that to say, MIND YOUR BUSINESS AND STOP WATCHING TMZ AND READING US WEEKLY trying to bash peoples private lives and worry about your own.

RE:wow! really?

The previous writer is a perfect example of what Ms. Chapin speaks. The writer believes Woods will learn fro his mistakes and suffer the consequences and become a better man and husband and a great father like his dad. Wow! Really? What the hell do you know? You missed Ms. Chapin's point entirely. We want to root for good athletes and believe they are good. But they are not always, and sorry but Woods behavior in anyone else would be considered scumbag behavior. His wife gets to decide whether she should forgive him, but the tolerance for this kind of behavior in the famous of all kinds is disgusting, and we should call it what it is. If anything, the famous who become role models for young people should be held to a higher standard. This guy was, like many men on a pedestal before him, fell prey to the hero worship and easy availability of women, and acted immorally. Period!!!

I agree with your blog. Married to pro for 17 years and just finding out of his affairs. Shame on me for falling in love and marrying someone with tons of athletic gifts and zero character qualities.

There are no public figures to look up to anymore. Everyone either has some sort of bad addiction, has a problem with fidelity, beats his spouse, is only in it for the money, takes steroids, is an egotistical jerk, plasters his/her body with tramp stamps, or sometimes even is a murderer. These days, celebrities are THE LAST people that anyone should be looking up to or idolizing. They're not "more human" and showing that they're "just like us." They're more subhuman. (I am human and I do none of these things.)

Who cares? Another famous rich person acting like an ass...this is something new? Only the American peasantry is interested in this crap. If he is not nailing my wife, I don't care who he is nailing. This is the stuff of Jerry Springer shows.
