I would love a Supreme Court Nominee, when asked if Roe vs Wade is "settled" law to state: Senator do you honestly believe any law is settled with the changes you see in human thought and understanding? Because if you believed that all law, once decided by the court is "settled", that is equal to saying you believe "seperate, but equal" was settled law and the Court was wrong in its' ruling to change "settled" law. Remember that decision had been on the books for 60 years.

I would love to see how many of the guys would have heart attacks as they dive for the door or under the desk.

Sotomayor's is a good reflection of everything else Obama's done to date: Center-to-right.

On 3 judge panels, she's voted with the Republicans 95% of the time.

She's sided against minorities 80% of the time.

She's the Republicans' dream.

If she can be compared to any of the sitting justices, it would be Scalia and Thomas. She appears to be as aggressive in questioning as Scalia, and bends over backwards to avoid being identified with affirmative action like Thomas.

Democrats won the election, and liberals in particular made it happen for Obama. Where is ours? Sotomayor isn't it.

Why does there have to be a "culture" war? Are there not more important issues to worry about than having some self appointed group or individual establishing rules for others to live by?

As President Washington intimated that if it does not pick my pocket or injure me why sould I care how someone else lives or worships?

Get a life Mr. Warren.

Her decision in the firefighter case was based on racism, I expect it to be overturned by the high court. Her comments are an example of a judge that is using other criteria than the law to decide her cases and that is not the function of the courts. The lady holding the scales of justice is wearing a blindfold for a reason.

Farrell sounds so typical right wing, simplistic!

Sotomayor is far better than Alito. She didn't JUST graduate from two of the best colleges in the world, she was one of their best students!

And if you read her entire comment about being "Latin" you would see that it was a far more complex statement, that she was saying she tries hard to have a broader perspective!

As a former-conservative I find the right wing sickening, from Rush Limberger to Ann Ugly, and yes, even Lou Dobbs, who used to be more moderate.

Wow..Newt, really grabbing at straws.. how desperate?

I am a white man and could certainly understand it must be tough for female minorities.

One would have to be living on another planet not to acknowledge that. And to take it out of it's intended context only makes you a bigger fool.

Sure, there are many poor and disadvantaged white people struggling just the same. Sotomayer is certainly aware of that, but does not have to be inclusive every time she is making a point with just one example.

If anything, your failure to recognize that makes your objectives more suspect. I would not call you a racist, but you are getting on years to be that oblivious to the plight of all Americans these days, from wherever they come.

I think most of us are tired of this kind of senseless rhetoric. It just does not work anymore, and folks have much more serious concerns about the future than to give this more than another eye-rolling.

Go ahead an jump on her for her stand on abortion, and other social issues. That's your right, just as much as it is her right to have those views.

R.L. Schaeffer,

you said: "an equal number of stupid people to counter-balance the smart ones is illogical and well... stupid.", what do you mean by that?, is it that blacks are stupid?, women are stupid? whites are smarter?

Also, you are another "cafeteria" catholic by only taking the teachings of the Church that you agree on. I'm assuming you disagree with the pope on the Irak war being a sin or that death penalty is unnecessary.

Stop embarassing us!

Tony Basagoitia of IL 2:21PM May 28, 2009

"Diversity" is not necessarily good or bad. To demand, in the name of 'diversity,' an equal number of stupid people to counter-balance the smart ones is illogical and well... stupid.

Furthermore, in the past I have advised you to stop your "Catholic Bashing" - not because no Catholics should be 'bashed'. But, because you have very limited knowledge of the Church or its teachings. For instance, your statement about the pope being "infallible" is incorrect - which is nothing unusual with regard to your comments.

There have been many bad popes who have made great errors - If you knew anything about Catholicism, beyond what you could write on your thumbnail, then you would know that the Church has never taught that the pope is infallible - except in the very rare instance of ex cathedra under the Teaching Magisterium of the Church.

So please Muser, keep your uniformed, anti-Catholic blather to yourself... Or, at the least, strive for 'informed' bigotry.
