I AM A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER IN TEXAS. TEXAS HAS NOT BEEN HIT AS HARD BY THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN - YET. I AM ACTUALLY HIRING. AFTER PLACING AN AD ON THE INTERNET, I WAS OVERWHELMED WITH THE RESPONSE AND TRULY SADDENED BY THE HARDSHIP STORIES I WAS FACED WITH. I BELIEVE A MODIFIED TAX HOLIDAY IS THE ANSWER FOR 2009 WITH A TAX HOLIDAY FOR BOTH BUSINESS AND EMPLOYEES FOR THE FIRST $50K OF INCOME AND TAKE OFF UPPER LIMIT FOR SOCIAL SECURITY FOR THOSE MAKING ABOVE $100K. THIS WILL HELP SMALL BUSINESS, WILL CONTINUE TO FUND THE SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM, AND IS THE TRUE LONG TERM REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH THE DEMOCRATS ARE LOOKING FOR. THIS SHOULD ACCOUNT FOR 50% OF THE STIMULUS AND WILL PROVIDE THE IMMEDIATE IMPACT WITH THE OTHER 50% OF THE SCALED DOWN STIMULUS TO BE DIVIDED BETWEEN TARGETED PROJECTS. I AGREE WITH THIS ARTICLE THAT INFASTRUCTURE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED THIS SUMMER WHILE “RELEAESE FOR CONTRUCTION” PLANS ARE FINALIZED. IF YOU READ THIS JOHN FARRELL, PLEASE DO A FOLLOW UP. THIS IS THE MOMEMENT BECAUSE TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

Permanent income tax and payroll tax holiday and cut the size of the federal govt and military in half. Take the money saved from the fed spending cuts and put towards Social Security, and then phase SS out by making it voluntary. Aren't we supposed to be a free people? How are mandatory income and payroll taxes part of a free society? My suggestion above would make the US the most prosperous country on the planet, instead of the dying Empire that it us today.

"And so. It turns out that the House Republicans and conservative Democrats who claim that the proposed $800 billion stimulus package is significantly larded with long-term spending projects are correct". Sorry to break it to you, but Shaun Hannity, Glenn Beck and yes, Rush Limbaugh reported some of these details on their radio show when this package was first announced. No need to make up stuff when your staff can get the facts. THAT is why their shows are so popular, not because we are lemmings who hate but because we are tax payers who want to know the truth not hero worship and flowery words. They did great fact checking under the Bush administration too.

It's nice to see that Obama is trying to taking some steps to fix our domestic and internation problems. I hope that Congress with help shape a stimulus package that will actually benefit Americans in the long run and not just tie us over for a week or so. The war on terror will shift to the countries that are actually harboring terrorist instead of staying in a country that is now self-sufficient. Americans will get adequate health care and education, while we try to help change the image of our country for the rest of the world. One way of doing this is to help eliminate global poverty, domestic and foreign. The Borgen Project (www.borgenproject.org) has some interesting facts about global poverty and how reducing it will help our society. It would cost $19 billion to eliminate global poverty, which is extremely small compared ot the $522 billion the U.S. government spent on our defense budget last year. By eliminating global poverty we are setting ourselves up to have stronger allies or new ones, we open up the doors to new resources and help make our society safer to live in.

Ok,

We really need to publish who puts what in this package and allow all the americans who have to pay for it, see who added what.

I really want to know who added the 1.5MM for a water park in Miami.
