The ideas promoted by this group are unrealistic and following them would surely bankrupt us and lead to a Chinese Century. Using force -- and even pre-emptive war on rare occasions -- are sometimes necessary, but should be used as sparingly as possible. We should have a big military and continue to greatly invest in it, but that does not mean we have the ability -- or the national will -- to advance the militant idealism of the Neocons.

Mr. Kristol and the rest of the Neocons are the reason for an eight year assult on the treasury, the compromise of our civil liberties, and for poorly planned and unrealistic military adventurism. While I firmly believe that we must remain in Iraq to stabilize it, we went in there under questionable pretenses and, even worse, poorly planned it. We floundered around for almost four years until the surge and Sunni Awakening. As a Republican with great respect and affinity for Reagan, Goldwater, Eisenhower, and Bob Taft, I strongly urge the Republican Party to occasionally listen to the Neocons, but put Realists and Pragmatists in foreign policy first. I would also like for the Republican Party to once again be a force for fiscal discipline, not fiscal destruction as we saw under the Cheney-Rove Administration. Putting forth two substantial tax cuts while having the biggest increase in entitlement programs since LBJ is just irresponsible. It would also be nice for the Republican Party to practice its moral values it allegedly professes a little better. Promoting fear, bigotry, and the politics of personal destruction were not a good start. It is unfortunate that many good Republicans like Senator McCain and Governor Palin had to be dragged in the mud by the uncivility and disasterous failures of the past eight years.

Ideology aside, is Farrell's piece honing in on Kristol and his stances or just another Boomer bashing brouhaha?

Carol Piaseczny, APR of CO 2:41PM January 27, 2009

Kristol is an idealogue. His angelic smile belies his truly pedantic positions and machiavellian views of how we should invade, attack, arm, militarize, and form policy to match the Project for a New American Century "manifesto". The neo-con view does not spread into domestic issues, so Kristol and his friends do not appear extreme if one considers domestic policy.

He, Krauthammer, Podhoretz, Perle, Cheney, Bennett and others at the heart of the neo-con movement all use the press to spread their Middle East political agenda.

We should read his articles to learn what that think tank has tried (and continues to try) to burden us all with - an aggressive, anti-muslim view that does not allow this country to move forward to make peace in the Middle East.

His hiring at the Washington Post tells me that management there wants to keep the New American Century's twisted point of view alive. I wish they had let the philosophy rest in peace.
