the best part of the article is about the unfortunate focus by most americans on satisfying their own self cententered greedy desires rather than cultivating their more far reaching potential for kindness, generosity, compassion and forgiveness....

I don't care if McCain has 52 houses. Let him live in a different one every week. He's still more in touch with America than Prince Obama. It's not that I like McCain, I don't, but he has the experience. Between him and Obama I have to choose him. As Joe Biden says, the White House is not the place for on the job training.

Are we fighting racial, ethnic, gender and lifestyle discrimniation but promoting shamelessly age discrimination? The media, the Obama propadanda machine and single-digit IQ commentators need to remember that at this moment, millions of "older people" are showing more energy and dedication in their full-time jobs than the "younger generation". The older voters will be there in November at the voting booths and see that the enchanted younger voters have disappeared from the landscape.

McCain is nothing but hypocrisy and more lies.He admitted he wasn't that knowledgable about the economy. His economic advisor, Phil Gramm, who had a direct hand in half the economic shambles we are finding ourselves in,called Americans a bunch of "whiners". The problem when the McCain campaign starts to try and paint Obama as an out of touch elistist is when the out of touch elitist McCain, can't remember how many houses he owns, or what kind of car he drives. We don't need another incredibly wealthy, completly silver spoon fed entitlement baby running our country and giving it away to his cronies. We have suffered through that with Georgie Jr.Time for two americans who have worked all thier lives and accomplished much to take the helm.Obama-Biden.

Don is a racist.

I'd also guess that he thinks that is American.

Grow up Don. You just sound foolish.

Obama is going to win, and all of this ugly racist, gun loving, homophobic, misogynistic, class war, crap is going to come to an end.

But the closer you look, the sleazer McCain is. I thought he was a hero. But he's scum

Theses discussions are so weird.

Obama came from a single parent household. His mother was on food stamps. He worked himself up to get into Harvard Law (no easy trick even if you have connections), becomes editor of the law review (extremely difficult like winning several gold medals in the Olympics), graduates and becomes a community worker, begins to pay off his student loans, rents an apartment, and buys a modest condo. He works hard and writes a book which is popular, buys a nice home, becomes a senator and runs for president.

He is criticized for being an elitist because he does not like lettuce.

John McCain is born into a well connected family, uses his fathers influence to get into private schools and Annapolis, ranks at the bottom of his class, crashes 4 planes, becomes a POW, returns and becomes serial adulterer, divorces, marries a rich woman, uses her and her parents influences to get into Congress, uses his influence for his pal Charles Keating who flies him and his family on many vacations, his wife invests with Keating and makes millions, dodges liability, his wife becomes an admitted drug addict stealing drugs from her charity, he get political religion, becomes a maverick to redeem himself, is pissed off at his party because he was trashed in 2000, ...... He then adopts all of the positions he fought against and will personally benefit to saving more than $370,000 if the Bush tax cuts are renewed.

He wants to be seen as the “everyman”.

You miss the point. It isn't that McCain is wealthy, it's that his comments reveal that he's completely out of touch with the average American. He looks like a fool when he tries to talk about belt-tightening for those who are struggling with the mortgages, while in the meantime having so many houses he can't keep track of them. OTOH, I'm sure your comments about liberals are a whole lot more convincing for those who have "forgotten" all the Republican attacks on Kerry over his wife's wealth.

And actually, on a more compassionate note, there's reason to worry about McCain's age...and health. He's tried to use his mother to assuage concerns about his age, but neglected to note that his father died of a heart attack at an age younger than McCain is now. Since there's thought to be a genetic link to heart disease, and McCain is reknown for his hot temper (Type-A behavior - an early death risk factor), there's a lot of reason to worry. (Note that Obama is far more tactful than I am in not bringing this obvious poitn up, but it needs to be looked at.)
