Here we go again. Just when you thought the religious right couldn’t come up with any more outrageous behavior designed to offend mainstream Americans and accomplish nothing of worth, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty proclaims April, again, “Abortion Recovery Month.”

The proclamation, first cited by the Minnesota Independent, “encourages and promotes healing opportunities and raises awareness of the aftermath of abortion experienced by individuals and families,” according to the document signed by the Republican governor and Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie.

According to Politico, the proclamation also recognizes that “many Minnesota organizations offer support and recovery services to those who have had abortions or who have been impacted by abortion" and that “many organizations in Minnesota promote policies that reinforce a culture of life and hope.”

It’s time for the religious right to get honest about what it’s really doing by continuing to campaign against abortion rights. (Politico reports Pawlenty’s third April declaration was done “at the behest of the anti-abortion advocacy group Silent No More.”)

What is the religious right doing by campaigning against abortion? First and foremost, its efforts seem aimed at trying to keep church pews filled by bringing more and more poor people into the world. Second, it will just end up boosting the teen unwed pregnancy rate every time it guilt trips an unwed, pregnant teen into bringing to term a child she does not want and cannot afford to raise. Third, it will effectively subjugate women and girls in the same way women and girls in developing nations are consigned to a life of child-bearing and little else.

So as long as Pawlenty is declaring April Abortion Recovery Month, if he wants to be fair and unbiased on this issue, he should declare May, “Anti-abortion Zealots Recovery Month,” so the rest of us can get a break from their unrelenting proselytizing and tomfoolery.

You are truly insane, your belief is unbelievablyridiculous BS. I cant believe you truly believe the "religous right" (those right wing fanatics) are against the MURDER of BABIES so church pews can be filled.LOL You really believe this? Truly amazing.

I cant believe any journalist would print such complete utter foolishness.

Your EXTREME views are laughable to the overwheliming vast majority of Americans. I cant even imagine pro death fanatics like the clintons, Biden, Boxer, Pelosi or Obama think Pro LIFE Americans are against abortion because they want to increase church attendance,,, hahahahahhahahahhah Your extreme fanatical views will eventually cause you to be ignored even by your Pro Death friends. There is authentic debate on this matter without such incredibly absurd nonsense

"the church bans suicide because corpses cant tithe?" Never have I heard such insane beliefs and find it scary you actually believe this. Intellectual liberal hate mongering intolerant bigots living in a warped insulated world. Have you thought of trying your luck as a stand up comedian? Lets fill the dumpsters with dead babies, at least church attendance will drop. Bonnie you are so compassionate, open minded and great advocate for young girls, with the excetions of those thrown in dumpsters as medical waste. Keep on smiling and spreading freedom, liberty and life, just need to ignore scientific reality, get rid of ultrasounds and for the love of murphy dont look at the boxes of "medical waste"

Thanks for showing how intolerant liberal are of the beliefs of others. Only a partisan jerkoff could think in this ignorant manner and Erbe is just such a partisan jerkoff. What a hateful loser.

Keeping pews filled by banning abortion has the motive of creating, keeping & increasing CHURCH INCOME by the ten per cent lifetime tithe plus fees. It's a vast amount of money. If a conception is aborted, the procedure takes from a church the exact DOLLAR VALUE it would have paid in the form of the tithe, church school costs & special fees for weddings, baptisms, confirmation & funerals. The motto of Prolife should be "Life Begins at Conception For Potential Tithers. Don't keep their tithes from the church because we need the money." For the same reason (CHURCH INCOME) churcn law bans suicide because corpses don't tithe. Taxpayers must stop tolerating religion for the reason that it creates enormous Congressional spending on welfare for poor unwed moms. It costs $500,000 to subsidize one such woman & one child to age 18. We simply cannot afford to tolerate laws that force taxpayers to be surrogate parents to children of Absentee Fathers & Deadbeat Dads. Like cowbirds, they abandon their offspring to be fed by birds of different kind. Thanks for the accurate article, Journalist Erbe.
