John Ensign, Defender of Marriage--Except His Own

Beth - I offer this.... Jesus would turn to the sinner and forgive their sin and then lay upon them the command - go and sin no more.

Straight, gay, Christian, Atheist - does not matter - there are and will be "hypocrites" throughout history and forever more- Why? - because we are human and we live in a fallen world in which we allow ourselves to be controlled by sin rather than living in submission to our calling as children of God and followers of Christ.

You are absolutely right in our call "to love one another" and it would appear that those speaking out against homosexuality at times seem less than loving, but it is written for Christians to call out other Christians who are not living a life of holiness. Calling someone a homosexual Christian is in essence inaccurate but rather he or she is a Christian with homosexual sin to bear and overcome. Hundreds of thousands have.

Boundries are crossed when language becomes harsh and it seems that those who speak out against homosexuality are denying human rights - it has very little to do with the person's rights and more to do with the sin. Sin doesn't just corrupt an individual as we are ALL part of the body of Christ, so each other's sin has great whithering effect on us all.

Scripture is clear on homosexuality. I wonder what life would be like if we stopped trying to change scripture to fit into our lives and choices and instead allow our choices and lives to fit into scripture.

If someone so chooses to live a life outside the holiness of their salvation and desires to live by the desires of their flesh - then one can only expect a brevity of blessing as living in the flesh disconnects us from our spirits where we find the ties that bind.

The journey on the slippery slope continues.... peace of Christ be with you and with us all.

I must be missing somehing. Like a computer harddrive, I was born in 1929 and believe my brain was a blank slate, until programmed. Parents taught me their beliefs and societal place in youth, church taught me basic religion, but as I grew and gained knowledge, I started thinking for myself. Same as gays and lesbians, at about age 9 I realized how I had been conceived, but unlike them I continued to mature and gain knowledge. Mixing K12 schooling, then work place 1947 - 1950, I enlisted in military in 1950 and gained a different perspective. I had never been encouraged to gain higher education, but in military during Korea I was promoted, realized I had brains and aptitudes, and was encouraged to grow. Rather than work union, in suppressed area of Ohio, I chose to remain for career. Have been married 57 years this year, and have never slept with any woman other than my wife. Why? My own life style, decisions, and beliefs. I do not criticize others, since when I meet my maker, I only have to account for my own actions. If any of prior posters or others know something I don't, please elucidate. In my lifetime, and meeting/maintaining personnel records of officers and enlisted, supervising and managing others, I view with suspicion those who try to micro-manage others lives. So Sen. Ensign was human, and in weak moment and temptation period, allowed an incident to happen for which he repented, apologized, and took full responsibility. I also note so many in politics, life, business who have done same or more, and blame the tempter. But again, only God (by whatever name, and in whatever form) has the right to judge. "Only those who have not sinned, should cast the first stone". No one else has the right to judge or criticize.

...so does religion. Nearly everyone who opposes gay marriage uses religion as their reasons for doing so. It comes with the territory.

Beth of MA 9:37PM June 20, 2009

Isn't the topic of the blog to which these comments are posted about the hypocrisy of Senator Ensign and many others who defend marriage as between one man and one woman - except their own? The blog has nothing to do with religion so why all the comments about religion?

Obfuscate - focusing on religion to distract from the hypocritical truth. Go protest adultery and affairs if you really care about the institution.

jerr of LA: I'd Google Bonobo if I were you. It IS natural. It happens in the animal kingdom ALL THE TIME. There are countless studies to back this up.

A human being CAN NOT and DOES NOT 'choose to be gay'. It's part of them and really... WHO would WILLINGLY CHOOSE to be something that can open them up to intense ridicule and abuse and in a few parts of the world, is punishable by death?

There ARE SOME people who are confused about their sexuality, but it's more often teens and they usually settle it by the time they're full adults. And then there are Bisexuals...

Really, if you're gonna make a claim like that, at LEAST show that you've done research. It's getting particularly annoying having to correct anti-gay people time after time who refuse to do their homework on the issue.

Beth of MA 12:56PM June 19, 2009

If it is perfectly natural, then dogs would be doing it, monkeys would be doing it, birds, cats, lizards. It is a sexual

choice. gays come and go out of beening homosexual eveyday, one year their gay the next they are stright!

Robert of XX, let me make sure I have this right...

You claim to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, that you are a sinner and... yet in the SAME BREATH, outright DENY that gays can be Christian?

Am I missing something here??? How can you claim you are a sinner and follow Christ when YOU CLAIM that gays are basically 'not good enough' to follow Him as well?

Quite frankly, your words and attitude do not strike me as the LEAST BIT Christ-loving. It comes of as judgmental, hypocritical and arrogant. You profess you have sinned, yet deny that there are gays looking for salvation in Jesus's Holy Name?

Who are YOU to say or even believe such a thing?

And really... do you even KNOW what 'sodomy' means? 'Sodomy' is used as a synonym for all kinds of wickedness and evil. In early writings it was used to mean all sexual immoralities, like incest, adultery, and promiscuity. Applying it to homosexuality is FACTUALLY INCORRECT. The word 'sodomite' doesn't even EXIST in Greek or Hebrew, not even for the residents of Sodom. And the Bible's original language was HEBREW, which was later translated to Greek, THEN later to English.

Don't believe me? Then check out this essay 'WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY'

by Eloise May. She is a devout Christian and follows the Lord Christ. Here's a clip from part of it, explaining WHY she decided to write this essay'

'...After graduating from college I learned that one of my friends in high school "had become gay." I knew only that "gay" meant men having sex with each other and that I had been taught that it was a particularly bad sin. I knew this guy well (I thought), knew him to be a sincere Christian, and one of the nicest, most decent friends I'd ever had. It didn't make sense. Several years later, while visiting my parents, I made a point of looking him up. I was curious, but I also wanted him to know that I was still his friend, whatever he had done. I'd heard that he had been kicked out of his church and rejected by his family. Even without knowing much about it, this punishment seemed extreme and unfair. '

Now think about this and answer truthfully. Eloise finds out her friend, a sincere CHRISTIAN and one of the best people she knew, was gay. She didn't really understand what it meant, just that it meant two people of the same gender having sex. Several years later, she finds out that her friend had been REJECTED BY HIS CHURCH and KICKED OUT OF HIS FAMILY.

Now tell me... does THAT sound AT ALL like the teachings of Christ? Does that sound like 'Love one Another', as he so commanded?

Seriously stop and THINK ABOUT IT, I beg you. If anything, at least refer to 'The Good Samaritan' contained in the Gospel of Luke to understand what I'm talking about. Then stop and ask yourself...

What would Jesus do? Would he have rejected this man, as others have? Or would he have embraced and loved him?

Keep in mind; it was Jesus who stated, 'Let He who is without sin cast the first stone.'

Religion has nothing to do with making Gay wrong.

Every normal human being knows that Sodomy is an abomination, it is also a leaven in society.

It is evil for my children to be exposed to all the glorification of sodomy. In trying to answer many issues being discussed, I must answer, no true Christian can or will support the evil sin of sodomy. They may support the person, which a christian should do and seek for their deliverance from this abominable practice. But let me say they do not hate the sodomist. No matter how govenments become debased by making destructive amd anti-God laws, there is coming a day when as with "Sodom and Gomorah" Judgment will certainly be brought to bear upon not only the sodomist but also upon all those who uphold such!

There is no such thing as Gay and Christian, you are one or the other!

To be Gay is to live in SIN. Every sinner has the wonderful opportunity to repent, turn from their sin and embrace the One who forgives sins The Lord Jesus Christ and live HIM.

A genuine Christian has the priveledge as did Adam in the garden to choose to live by the Tree of Life (OBEDIENCE TO GOD). Rebellion against God is to live by the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Surely we all have seen too much of the fruit of the latter tree, even in our own lives.

We all are sinners, should we choose to continue in the way of rebellion we are only adding to the suffering, injustice hatred, and every kind of evil that exists among us today. The end threof is to die in our sin.

Thand God, some of us have truly repented, I personally repent and confess my sin, disobedience, rebellion, evil thoughts, imaginations and any thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of God every day,
