"Something so bad must have happened in your life that made you turn from GOD. Bonnie, where do you think you come from. If there is no GOD then what, who and where was the earth form?"

I think that this is covered in science? That the Earth was formed from particles in the universe. Besides, EVEN IF God created Earth, that DOES NOT mean that he is the Christian God, just that he exists, i.e. deitist god.

"I had a supervisor that was like yourself, unbelieving in GOD who died a horrific death. She too, felt like you do! She thought that she was also living a good life, but GOD shine on the just and the unjust."

I believe a lot of Christians, Catholics, Jews die horrible deaths. Most obvious: The Holocaust. Besides, don't LOADS of religious people die from cancer EVERY day?

"Woe unto you Bonnie! This life is not forever, we die Bonnie everyday. There is a part 2 to your being and I would hate to be in your shoes."

Are her shoes any different from yours? See above.

"GOD hear you and knows your heart Bonnie, He love you! You have to love yourself"

Isn't this the argument: God loves you! God loves you! God loves you! Therefore God exists. ??? And besides, just because someone ELSE loves you, you have to love yourself? (Don't get me wrong, I encourage people to love themselves, but not for this reason.)

"In all your happiness and wealth, you can not take one thing with you when you die, just your selfishness of your heart , here trying to mislead people into damnation. Shame on you woman!"

Why is it, that in a modern society, we can discuss issues like abortion and gay rights, but we can't discuss religion? Is this then the American "free speech"?

"GOD do not owe you nothing, you are bless and don't even know it."

Same emotional blackmail argument as above.

"Seek GOD with all your heart before it is to late! Ask HIM to come into your life and that heart of your's. HE is in control of everything. Lean on GOD and not your own understanding."

That is if God exists, which you haven't even started to prove. Besides, how different is a world with God compared to a world WITHOUT God? Science explains a lot. Besides, if God controls everything, what's the point of science? Also, if you "lean on God and not your own understanding", isn't that against everything everyone is trying to do to modernise society?

" Do not die in you sins."

Sins as defined by who? As Alan has mentioned, God did a lot of things that we would consider sins today.

I have attempted to address all the points in the comment. Please correct me if I am wrong.

'I have no promise to finish this posting, however, I believe in a God of Mercy and Grace'

Really now, the same one that did all this?

'Let's look at a few of God's exploits first. His most famous act of genocide was the flood of Noah when he killed every living thing on the planet, except for the handful in the Ark. Not just every man, woman and innocent child, but every animal, fish and plant as well. Then he wiped out Sodom and Gomorrah, even the innocent babies, and then killed Lot's wife for daring to watch his murderous rampage. He killed every single innocent firstborn in Egypt, humans and livestock, over a tiff he was having with the Pharaoh. He slaughtered personally or ordered killed 12,000 people of Ai, 10,000 Moabites, 10,000 Perizzites and Cannanites, 120,000 Midianites, 50,070 at Bethshemesh, 70,000 people from Dan to Beersheba, 185,000 Assyrians, 24,000 Israelites on one occasion and 14,700 on another, not to mention the peoples and cities in which he killed 'many' or destroyed completely. And this is just a small sample of God's murderous interaction with mankind. The disgusting, barbaric nature of God as detailed in the Old Testament is beyond belief, and the Bible should be reclassified as 'horror', not religion.'

Dear Stephanie,

I can not respond for Bonnie, but as another strong minded, feminist, atheist woman who run into well meaning people like you all the time...I want to make someting clear....Just because we do not believe in god, does not mean we are not happy and have peace in our lives. I for one have a very complete and fulfilling life. I have three beautiful, bratty kids that make me laugh and frustrate the hell out of me all at the same time. I have a great husband that worships the ground I walk on and he's goodlooking to boot. I have a rewarding career working with and rehabilitating dogs as well as being a career student in women's and matriarchal studies. I created a happy life with help from other real life people, not god.

I feel no need to have to forgive myself...for what, do we need to forgive ourselves for??? Going all the way with a few boys in highschool? Drinking a little too much at the bar and flashing people the twins? Having an abortion or giving a baby up because you know you can't care for it??? The list can go on and on. We are taught(especially women!)to feel shame and guilt for every little thing or even thought we have and it is pure nonsense. ITs a scam set up by a patriarchal religious system to dominate and control others and it is emotional abuse!

Stephanie you sound more like you have jusst surrendered, given up on being completely free. I'm sure as a woman you have had a hard life like most of us have, living in a male dominated culture. 1 out of 4 women in the U.S. will experience some type of abuse and usually sexual(yes, I am one of them). We still live in a time where women are not equal! I chose to fight and keep pushing harder. Maybe you can point the finger and say I am angry and not at peace. Of course your religious leaders will portray me and other outspoken women that way, but my question to you is how can you not be? How can you be OK with unequality? How can you be OK with the abuse women suffer around the world at the hands of you own religion and others just like it? I guess you find peace in praying and doing nothing..ie..surrendering and comforming to their will. Not me! I will fight to the death and so will many other atheist women and you can thanks us in advance for your daughters freedom.

Best wishes,

A feminist atheist

Can we put all "religion aside".... Let's face it, the number of hypocrites in the Christian realm is probably uncountable, right? The ones you probably despise are the ones that still aren't where they need to be with God...they need a personal relationship with him. They have made the same mistake that the atheist has made - to use religion or non-religion as a sense of their own pride - pride, the same thing that made Satan a fallen angel. I just want to offer you this other view.....

But to see this view, you have to take yourself to a place where no one is around.... you have to forget everything of your upbringing, your past, everything that has possibly influenced you in your life. Are you there yet?

Our belief or disbelief of God does not change the reality of what is real, what is true, etc... If you could only just set it all down Bonnie, the hurts in your life that may have been unbearable, the mistakes you've made, those that you have hurt... just set it all down for a minute. Lift yourself above all of it... look at it from above... much like God would see it if you believed in him.

I feel in my heart that you fight so hard for women's rights because so badly you want to feel... you want to feel that all-encompassing freedom that only God can give to you and no one else. The kind of freedom that would allow you to dance in the middle of an important meeting with your boss an laught at them! But Satan is going to place those proud Christians that you know in your mind to say to you... look Bonnie, you don't want to be self-righteous and ignorant like them do you? But that's the tragedy. But those people are not perfect either, they are caught up in that wind of self-rightousness that is NOT of God.

Bonnie, you have been so successful in your life, but please just think for a minute about how short this life is here on Earth. Get down to the raw reality of it all. You have so much knowledge and talent, but at the end of the day, are you happy? really truely happy and do you have a peace in your heart? I didn't for a very long time and I was brought up in a Christian home. But until I made the personal decision to seek out Jesus, the one who saves, the one who willingly offered his life for the mistakes that you and I would make, I was not happy. I was miserable with myself. No matter what successes I had in other areas of my life, until I found that perfect love in Christ, I was nobody. And I have a past! Let me tell you!! Please, just don't short change yourself. Jut think about it. I beg you, just don't close yourself off to the possibility of God, a loving God, who will continue to allow us to fall until we fall, right into his lap. You may not think that the possibility is there in your mind, but God knows it is there, maybe burried somewhere deep down under all those hurts.

To be a bit more on topic after feeling the need to address a message to Tim:

There is a reason why there currently is not a "Church of Atheism" and why there never will be. Atheists only have ONE THING that binds them. A lack of belief in God/god/gods. That’s it. There are no rituals, no songs, no mass gathering places or years of tradition. There is no book of "morals" to bind us, no common doctrine... Aside from that one single statement: "A lack of belief in God/god/gods" the non-believers of the world are of every class, creed, nationality, race, and culture you can think of. It is because of this that there will never be a "Church of Atheism" and in all honesty (IMO) there never should be.

GG of VA 3:11PM May 06, 2009

Tim,

I cannot help but note the EXTREME hypocrisy of your post. You start out by pointing the finger at someone and calling them arrogant and egotistical (VERY Christian of you I might add). You then go on to state: "we knew "Santa" was false or made up", "we knew some things that Santa is suppose to do is physically impossible" and finally end it with a riotous "At one point in life, you believed, and you still believe (in God)". So, not only have you told other that they are "arrogant and egotistical" you then turn around and attempt to tell them what they do or don’t believe going so far as to say: "You believe in God, BUT, you believe more in yourself and your ways"... And yet you get upset when someone questions your beliefs? Are you so busy asserting you baseless claim/belief/lifestyle that you cannot stop to see that you are being rude, obnoxious, forceful, and generally a lot of adjectives that your own belief system specifically tells you NOT to be. Generally, you will attract more flies with honey. If you reaaaallllly feel the need to inform other of your beliefs, use your actions not your words. Live the lifestyle and bring others into your fold BY EXAMPLE. You immature ratings regarding your faith, your extremely telling inability to recognize other peoples perspectives reveals your close mindedness at best and your immaturity at worst. It is because of people like you that there are more non-believers every day. Why would anyone in their right mind listen to your ranting on Christianity when you do it in a completely UN-Christian manner? Even better, the irony of you starting out your post by point the fingers at others and calling them arrogant and egotistical is almost literally palpable. The reason why religion is waning? Look in the mirror buddy. Take a good long hard look and think about how "Christian" you really are. After that, get yourself a dose of perspective. Study other religions, strive to understand other cultures, try to (I know it's tough) consider not only what other people think, feel, and believe... but most importantly WHY.

Now I know this will probably not be read, and even so it will more than likely fall on deaf ears. But self righteous hypocrites like you make my blood boil.
