At 100 Days, It's Clear Obama Is Not Bush--That Doesn't Make Him a Good President Yet

I keep reading your column, Ms Erbe; but I often ask myself why. You pride yourself on being a "contrarian", and I know you like to bash the president on a more or less regular basis. Reading the predictable hateful responses from your predictable stable of fellow Obama detractors, I am finally giving up hope of ever finding any common ground with you or with them.

From my perspective, Barack Obama is a brilliant politician, but also a good and kind man. He is articulate and also listens intently to others, whether powerful or of humble station. He tackles problems others would't touch with a ten foot pole.He carries himself with grace and dignity. He may make mistakes, but at least he has a vision that includes ALL Americans, not only the rich.

Good luck to all you heart warming people. I will seek enlightened political discourse elsewhere.

Obama is likeable however, blaming America for the woes of the world in foreign countries does not make America strong and does not raise the image of this country. As for Brush, do not forget he kept us safe from further attacks by these that hate us. America was called the "great satan" by moslem fanatics before Brush administration.

The economic situation now was not cause by Brush, remember Frank Banes and Chris Dodd. Talk to them about what happened for bettter understanding. Do not for greed both the individuals who could not afford their wants, the politicans forcing banks to give credits to people not qualified and the banking institutions' greed.

You people are dispicable. Bush stood for an illegal, ill-advised war, which has killed over 4000 Americans and over 100,000 Iraqis. And you're proud of that? He hugely enlarged entitlements and didn't raise taxes, which, coupled with the war, left us in the economic toilet we're in now. He humiliated and made the United States a joke to the rest of the world. He didn't do a thing while the earth's climate was undergoing irreparable damage. Allowed our country to conduct torture, the same kind of torture that Japanense soldiers were tried and executed for conducting on our soldiers during WWII. I'll take Obama for my president any day, especially over G. W. Bush, who will go down as one of our worse president ever. Abortion! Abortion! Abortion! That's your one-trick pony you facist pigs on the right, whine about. I can't wait until 2010 and 2012. We're not done with you yet, BITCH!

Ummm first you say that Obama believes in constructive dialogue with enemies, believes in investing in America instead of pouring trillions into a failed mistake of a war in Iraq, believes that for the past 8 years the ultra wealthy few elite have not paid their fair share in taxes(something even Warren Buffet attests to), believes in a Woman's right to choose which most of America agrees with(and it's appalling/hypocritical this is not a Republican "personal responsibility" value), believes in revoking the Defense of Marriage Act(another hypocritical "Republican value"), believes in what the founding fathers intended that "religion" does not belong in the public square(No where in the constitution is Jesus or “Him” mentioned. If this were intended, it would be clear, but in fact, most of the founding fathers such as Thomas Jefferson were purely Deists which explains the general, Pantheistic reference to "God").

and then you say he stands for nothing....

The only people left in the Republican party are the extremist Evangelical Christian Militants and self absorbed blind far right ultra conservatives such as yourself. Then you wonder why your party is ever-shrinking while America and the world is progressing forward. With Arlen Specter now on our side, the Democratic party now more than ever reflects America's rich diversity. Democrats are not afraid of a good debate along with free and open opinions unlike the party of lockstep bible thumpers the Republican party has become over the last 20+ years.

This is why younger conservatives are flooding to the Libertarian party in full force. Republicans need to take a good hard look at themselves before they even begin to think about opening their mouths to criticize anyone else right now.

I have been a Republican all my voting years, and that has been sometime.I changed to Democrat sometime in the middle of George W's term.I am 63 years old and cannot remember the world being in such a mess and have never seen such dishonesty in the Republican party. Yes George kept us safe by luck only. You can never keep people out of the United States if they want to do us harm no matter who the president is. We just went after the wrong man after 911.He is still out there.I believe Obama is straight when he talks and I believe he will do everything he can to help the American people. He is not a miracle maker and cannot make blue skies out of the thunder and lightning we have had for the past years. Give him a chance. How can anyone wish a president to do bad. We all live in the same world.

I will not comment on the content of the blog by Bonnie Erbe, everyone has a right to their opinion and that is just what this is. What I take exception to is the reference to the President as Mr.Obama. You may not have wanted him to be president, but he is. You even called George Bush, President Bush. Where is your respect for the office at least. You and those like you need to refer to the President as such. By the way my last name is Erbe also and you are not showing the manners we Erbes were raised with.

I'm looking forward to an Obama/Jindal matchup. The only thing as bad as a Chicago machine politician is a Louisiana machine politician. Let's hear it for the 2 party system!

"undoing all the damage President Bush did to America's preeminence in international affairs"

President Bush, while not my favorite President, did his number one job - he kept America SAFE.

If this country is attacked while President Obama is in office it will be completely on his head.

Larry of CA 12:10PM April 29, 2009

We probably should not expect much from a self absorbed, egotistical, eco-socialist, with a history of far left, dirty "ACORN" style politics, who spent more money on the White House than any candidate in history and, had he been "all white", would have stood no chance whatsoever in the election.

Those are obvious facts that only zombied-out Obamatrons could fail to acknowledge.

Well, we got what he paid for... Now we're all gonna be paying for a long time - not just with money, but our national honor and freedoms as well.

R.L. Schaefer of CA 12:02PM April 29, 2009

that Obama stands for nothing. Evidence on dozens of fronts is completely contradictory to that silly goose statement.
