I do not agree with the people who are harping on the President's choice of dog. First of all, he said that he might, not for sure would adopt. Second of all the dog was a gift to his family. The dog fit their needs, and it was a gift. It would have been rude to return it. I have a rescue Chihuahua and she is doing great. She had for litters of puppies before she was dumped. When I got her, we discovered a hernia that the rescue had missed, so we had to have it fixed. The rescue did pay. She also had alot of socialization issue, which we are working with. I am active, and I wanted a second dog that could run with me. I rescued a Jack Russel from the same rescue. He stayed with them for a month while my dog was healing from surgery and I paid his bills. When I went to pick him up, he had severe bowel issurs and he was three legged lame. The rescue did not have any explanation for this, nor did they tell me about it an hour before when I called them to pick him up, or when I put him in my car. I took advantage of their return policy and gave him back. I loved him, but they had not vetted his leg. It was impossible to miss. They were angry and they would not let me look at any other dogs. I vented to my vet and he happens to breed dogs that were exactly what I was looking for. I have arescue cat and the small dog. The dog that I am buying is a sighthound. The vet also breeds showcats, so the dog is very socialized. I wanted a greyhound, but all of the younger ones that I was looking at were not good with cats. I need a young dog, who I can train for agility and flyball. The vet has the dog that I need. He also runs a rescue, but I will purchase the dog that is fitting me the best. He is not a puppymill dog. The breeder has a list of 12 people lined up for six dogs. I am not a bad person. I am getting the dog that I need, as did President Obama.

he said they MIGHT get a rescue dog, that does not mean for sure.Sometimes people want a breed of dog that can not be easily found in a recue or shelter and they might want na puppy, most breed rescues have older dogs.i think there are beautiful shelter pets but some people want a hard to find breed and as long as they love the dog, that is what matters.

I remember listening to Obama telling the public that when he becomes the President he and the family will be getting a dog and they will be getting from the Humane Society and I know my family was so happy and proud to hear the pres. make that promise. You begin to think that this president is going to make a real difference. Then the day comes and POW a broken promise. Yes, it just a dog you might think not to the Americans who voted for you it is a broken promise. Ah maybe we should just stand up and take it what makes Obama any different the American public is use to be lied to by well meaning presidents. I guess we were honestly hoping that Obama would be different.

The Obamas can not even adopt a dog.

They have millions to spend.

So why not leave millions of dogs in shelters.

I think Obama will set a lot of bad examples in the future.

America will pay and some thought they would get paid this is just a look into that ole crystal ball!!!

lies, lies, lies

I am so diapointed in the president!!!!

He should have set an example by getting a rescue dog.

Makes me wonder if he is another all talk!!!!

I am confident that everyone who has chosen to air their opinions on this blog would agree that those two issues are hardly one-in-the-same. Thanks for sharing though...
