The following story drew the "duh" response from me and will from you, too:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The FBI is bracing for a wave of fraud and corruption cases stemming from the government's multi-trillion-dollar effort to get the economy moving again, the agency's chief told Congress on Wednesday.

The expected surge in economic crimes will place further strain on an agency already stretched thin as it investigates mortgage fraud, terrorism and corrupt politicians, FBI Director Robert Mueller said.

People who engage in fraud are like hunters: they shoot at easy targets. When the president proposed and Congress approved an ocean of pork in his stimulus plan, it was easily predicted that crooks would get in the mix quickly--particularly when the government is the only part of the economy able to function in our current mess. Why did Willie Sutton rob banks? His famous response was that was where the money is. Why will crooks target government programs? Same reason.

If Congress and the President had done a better job at targeting funds at, A) freeing up the frozen financial lending system and, B) creating government jobs in certain industries, then crooks wouldn't be viewing the stimulus package as a theft opportunity. But since billions of dollars in government contracts will be lent to private employers, of course there's going to be fraud.

I agree with Marie of NY up to a point, it's not just white men doing these scams it's also African Americans , a couple of months ago I applied for a job on career builder as a customer service rep, well it seems these crooks are also targeting career builder as well as snag a job, I supposedly got the job but it wasn't what I applied for it was a secret shopper job and the gentleman sounded like he was from Africa, he said my first assignment was to go to a money gram super store and cash a money order for $1900 I was to keep $200 and take it the store fee out also then I was to wire the rest of the money to someone claiming to be my aunt, yeah right !!!!! I reported this to BBB, FBI, FTC. My point is it's not just the whites the blacks are also screwing their own people race has nothing to do with it it's just that more whites are doing it and the blacks are discreet. It's all about educating people and letting them know if it's too good to be true it's most likely is. I noticed this lady is blaming Obama for the crooks and I don't agree with her stupidity if she was paying attention she would have known that these crooks was around way before Obama went into office and I think he's doing an outstanding job in fixing George Bush, AIG and all the other idiots that drove this country into the ground but I don't see anyone writing an article on the destruction that was caused they rather blame the man that's been thinking about the people.. Crooks will be crooks .... They will always be here, scamming, stealling, and ruining peoples lives.. When you take one away 20 pops out that's just the way things are.... Instead of blaming we should be educating people on how to protect themselves against these thieves

First off crooks was around way before Obama went into presidency, so I don't think it's fair to blame him for trying to help a country that's drowning. We wouldn't be in this mess if it wasn't for AIG and all the other idiots including George Bush let's put the blame where it's needed. Crooks don't need a reason to screw hard working people these people are snakes just waiting to strike at unsuspected people and they don't care who they hurt in the proccess. Years ago I'd say about six years ago I recieved a letter in the mail saying I won $62,000 from a Australia lottery I reside in Miami, FL so I took the check to the bank and the bank teller confirmed what I suspected it was a scam, so she suggested I deposite the check but put a seven day hold on it just to make sure the check cleared I did and seven days later I recieved a later from the bank stating that the check was fraudulant, many people have fallen victims to this and all type of scams the difference with me is I never sent anyone money and Obama wasn't president yet so there goes your stupid theory. Your blaming the president for something he can't control. What about the crooks that are selling fertility herbs to desperate couples trying to concieve? See , your theory is wrong !!!!!! Whatever crooks think can make them money they will do it.. So before you start blaming a man that's trying to help us get back on track you really should do your research otherwise you'll have some pissed off people like myself shoving your theory up your @ss

I live in the city of Detroit. I can assure you government waste and corruption is not limited to white people and neither is crime.
