I'm not sure I agree with my colleague John A. Farrell's take on whether the Republicans made a mistake by opposing President Obama's stimulus bill in the U.S. House:

If the package doesn't pull the economy out of the current canyon it's in, and/or if it leads to hyperinflation, it may look like brilliance in hindsight.

I do agree the Republicans seem like a flock of sheep without a shepherd at the moment. The old guard that's leading Congress right now needs some young, fresh replacements. But the one thing that has always held the GOP together has been the call for lower taxes. And Mr. Obama's right-headed yet profligate spending can't possibly lead to lower taxes in the future, any more than former President Bush's wrong-headed profligacy will.

Don't worry, once all the tax cheats in Obama's administration start ponying -- that will stimulate the economy.

I doubt that the choosing of Michael Steele will bring any more Blacks to the Repocons than Palin brought women to McCain.
The American public is preceived as stupid. We're not, we are just preoccupied with our own lives and problems until the insults of the "elites' reach a level that we have to show the "elites" just how dumb they are.

Obama is angry about greed and arrogance on Wall Street - but his own nominees Thomas A. Daschle and Timothy Geithner have significant money due and owing the Federal government in the form of income tax for YEARS. Obama wanted the power and he promised change— and what do we get -- just more corruption, lying only from the Democrats. At least for a time, people made some money off Wall Street’s greed--that's more than we can expect of the Federal Government. Now we are only hoping to receive Social Security--those of us who HAVE diligently paid our taxes not making what Daschle made as a Senator at any time in our work life. Obama may owe Daschle something for his part in the his campaign but why do the American people have yet another “Do as I say, not as I do” hypocrite politician rewarded for behavior that should have gotten him jail time. Give me Willie Nelson anyday—he at least makes music—what the hell did Tom Daschle ever do than anyone but Tom Daschle any good.
