The Left’s Clock is Ticking on the Barack Obama Honeymoon

November 17, 2008 RSS Feed Print

How long will the honeymoon last? How long will the far left of the Democratic Party continue to support President-elect Obama? My prediction? Not much longer— look for the hard-liners to start sniping soon and fall apart within months.

Today, that most liberal of hard-left blogs, the dailykos.com, started faulting Obama for sticking up for Democratic defector Joe Lieberman:

Surprising, and very much welcome.

Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), a close ally of Sen. Joe Lieberman, said the Connecticut Independent should pay a price for his campaign attacks against President-elect Barack Obama.

"There need to be consequences, and they cannot be insignificant," Carper said in a Monday interview with The Hill.

Carper, a fellow centrist who was Delaware campaign chairman for Lieberman's failed bid for president in 2004, said he and many other Senate Democrats are disappointed and even angered by their colleague's sometimes-inflammatory rhetoric during this year's presidential campaign.

A month or more ago, a high-level Congressional staffer told me Lieberman would not be barred from the Democratic caucus, nor would he lose his chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee. The penalty, instead, for campaigning for Sen. John McCain during the election, would be stacking the committee with more members and more subcommittee chairmen, (as Roosevelt stacked the Supreme Court) so that Lieberman's power would be diluted in a way that would not be immediately apparent to the general public.

That won't satisfy the hard-left, which wants Lieberman booted out of the party or stripped of his powers. Personally, I don't have a dog/ideology in this fight, but find it fascinating to watch as the extremists self-destruct. Pat Buchanan once told me Republicans were great at eating their young. Democrats possess the same skills.

(HONOLULU)(November 18, 2008) Aloha from Hawai’i.

A Honolulu circuit judge heard vigorous arguments in the lawsuit filed by Obama author Andy Martin. Martin is seeking access to Barack Obama’s original, typewritten 1961 birth certificate. The judge reserved judgment.

“We had about a half-hour hearing,” Martin states. “Both the Attorney General and I vigorously presented our respective positions. The Court gave no indication of when or how the ruling could come or what the result will be.

“I have ordered a transcript of the hearing and as soon as it arrives we will post it on our blogs. People should be able to read the arguments in Court. Rather than characterize what was said, I will allow everyone to review the presentation for themselves.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- A former opponent of Barack Obama's has come back to haunt him over questions regarding Obama's citizenship.

According to a press release from the American Independent Party, former presidential candidate Alan Keyes and other members of the party have filed suit in California Superior Court in Sacramento to stop the state from giving its electoral votes to President-elect Barack Obama until documentary evidence is provided to prove Obama is indeed a natural born citizen of the United States.

Keyes also ran against Obama as a Republican for the U.S. Senate seat in Illinois in 2004. Obama won that election to serve his first and only term in the U.S. Senate.

The Obama campaign countered similar accusations early in 2008 by posting Obama's certification of live birth, and saying: "Barack Obama was born in the state of Hawaii in 1961, a native citizen of the United States of America."

A copy of this document is available from the Obama campaign:

I thought Obama wanted people who disagree with him? But even the chosen one verbal attacked Liberman on the floor of the senate for his support of John McCain. I guess Democrats do not have a right to support the candidate of their own choice.

I thought Democrats were the party of tolerance? I thought they defended the right to freedom of speech. I guess not.

I guess they just say these things, but in reality they do not mean them! Liebermann can be attacked because he is not gay, a racial minority or in the country illegally!

Old, white, Jewish guy is not a Democrat special interest group!

(He will get Bin Laden in his first term? I wonder what this poster bases such a statement on. Obviosuly it is not a statement of fact. I give it about as much weight as the man with the sign that says "the world is ending", in downtown New York. Drink some more kooliade!)
