Problems Mount for Barack Obama as the Democratic Convention Nears
Tweet Share on Facebook August 4, 2008 Comment (123)Call it delusional, even fanatical. But a growing Web-based movement of Sen. Hillary Clinton supporters is pressing to have Clinton's name "placed in nomination" at the Democratic convention in Denver later this month. Some are hoping, as Congressional Quarterly reported, that "if the roll call of the states is conducted, she might—might—still win."
There was a bit of a media dust-up about this story over the weekend. The New York Daily News cited a source close to Clinton confirming that "she won't file a formal request to the convention asking to be nominated along with Barack Obama, who eked out the victory in their fierce primary slugfest. 'She is not going to submit the signed request,' the insider told the Daily News. 'People are still circulating petitions on her behalf, but this is a done deal.' "

Barack Obama and the Race Card: Tread Carefully
Tweet Share on Facebook August 1, 2008 Comment (24)Here we go with the "loose lips" segment of the 2008 presidential campaign. Sen. Barack Obama, campaigning Wednesday in Missouri, was reported to argue that President Bush and presumptive GOP nominee John McCain, lacking a compelling positive argument, would use scare tactics to keep the White House:
"Nobody thinks that Bush and McCain have a real answer to the challenges we face. So what they're going to try to do is make you scared of me," Obama said. "You know, 'He's not patriotic enough, he's got a funny name,' you know, 'he doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills."
