Pelosi and the Younger Set

Hopeful House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi came onstage at DCCC election night headquarters preceded by several members of what she's calling the House 30-Something Working Group. It's a coalition of younger Democratic House members she assembled this past spring to reach out specifically to 30-something Americans–what Democrats are calling "the next generation." Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Kendrick Meek, both Florida Democrats, promised the rock-'n'-rolling crowd they would take "the next generation's needs" into consideration as Democrats move in a "new direction" (Democrats' campaign theme).

Perhaps more important, Pelosi's creation of this group shows that Democrats are taking a page from Republican tactical textbooks and reaching out to constituencies they have taken for granted in the past. Guess 12 years out of power has taught them something.
