I'll be filing from DCCC headquarters tonightthe Hyatt Regency ballroom at the base of Capitol Hill. Am here (if predictions turn out to be right) to watch Nancy Pelosi become the first female House speaker.
The crowd here is certainly celebratory. Lots of young people drinking wine, chugging beer, swaying to a live rock band, and cheering as election results are projected on two huge screens in the front of the room.
The crowd was especially jubilant as one of the cable networks called Bob Menendez the winner of the Senate race in New Jerseyone the Democrats were scared they might lose until quite recently.
Top buzz at the moment: With 16 percent of precincts in Virginia reporting, incumbent Republican Sen. George Allen was pulling in more than 55 percent of the vote. But those precincts were in south and central Virginia. As more precincts reported from Northern Virginiaa liberal bastionAllen and Democratic challenger Jim Webb pulled even at 49 percent each.
