I also listened to the governor's tape addressing the Rotary Club and I agree that she was not "joking" in any way, nor was her statement a convenient, "slip of the tongue, and there certainly was no laughter in the background supporting her little "joke"!
Goverrnor Perdue has her "veto stamp" always at the ready for her seemingly "governing with a vengence" attitude. Earlier this year, she vetoed the sensible, voter ID measure that our state assembly voted overwhelmingly for passage. A recent Elon University poll found 75 percent of North Carolinians support voter ID requirements. The fact is, it was Perdue's eighth veto since February. She has now vetoed as many bills in 10 months as her predecessor did in eight years.

Governor Perdue, like President Obama, continues to dictate against the will of the people. We certainly need to scrap THIS one, along with Obama next year.

This is ridiculous. Of course she was joking. That's why she went on to say that she won't hold it against them for the decisions they make.
Anyone who says this wasn't a joke is being blatantly disingenuous.

Interestingly enough, Hugo Chavez, Marxist dictator of Venezuela suspended his countries’ Constitution. At a minimum, Gov. Perdue should be on TV to apologize for her complete meltdown. After doing so, she should immediately resign her position. What a complete embarrassment Perdue is for North Carolina. She is most dangerous. Does Perdue feel America should be a Marxist nation like Venezuela? She should be thrown out of the Democrat Party. She is a danger to North Carolina. The problem is there are numerous elected and unelected officials who feel America's freedoms, Constitution, and Bill of Rights should be suspended. When did Hugo Chavez become Dictator in America in the form of Beverly Purdue? Does President obama have these same feelings?

After listening to her on the audio file, I am certain Gov. Perdue was not trying to make a joke or be sarcastic when she suggested suspending the 2012 elections. Furthermore, this is not a new idea among Democrats. A prominent liberal blogger proposed this course of action prior to the 2010 congressional elections, when it became clear that U.S. voters would try to stop the “Democratic” party’s socialist agenda:
“For the first time in history, I feel that we should suspend an election until we can GUARANTEE the result of the voting would be fair and just. The only way such a result would happen is if the progressives maintained and, in fact, increased power in both the House and the Senate. Such a result will guarantee the implementation of our progressive health care, environmental, and corporate conversions...”
“…the President can even declare emergencies that would preclude the congressional election cycle. Such emergencies would not have to be limited to acts of war against the US, but any number of reasons.” journals.democraticunderground.com/BanTheGOP/69
