Congress often makes decisions based on information they get from ANALYSTS hired by the CIA or other agencies. Analyses often prove to be destructive "wrong guesses" & or "faulty predictions." Historically, the GOP prefers to "bargain from strength" (HUGE DEFENSE BUDGETS) when discussing world peace. It accepts analyses that claim the world is a dangerous place, with THREATS everywhere. Bush-Cheney exploited agony over WTC deaths to claim Iraq sent the martyrs but they were l00% wrong. Congress accepted their lies & we are sunk even deeper in war debt. President Reagan gave a big boost to the current depression & lending crises. He did it with his stubborn policy of refusing to enforce anti-trust laws. He is notorious for de-regulating the industries that then went ahead and committed all kinds of white collar crime like uncollateralized loans, etc. The Nam War was called Cardinal Spellman's War. 55,000 Americans died in that illegal war. CIA operator Howard Hunt forged cables that fooled JFK & LBJ to start & fight that war. We supported corrupt Catholics Diem & Thieu as they made millions of dollars using our people and transport to sell heroin. We will never amortize war debts.

The only opening for Republicans is to hide their responsibility behind the constant lies from media hacks like this. Bamboozle the youngsters who might not remember who is responsible for the debt and the Great Recession. Republicans are counting on their Mantra - Lies repeated a million times get a life of their own.

Unfortunately accountability is not in the Republican vocabulary.

I agree with Joe of OR that entitlement is a serious problem, but the new dangerous entitlement class are the corporate welfare queens looking for bailouts or someone else to clean up their spilt oil. A few innercity unwed mothers seems like a bargain now compared to having to sustain the lifestyles of entitled Wall Street traders and bankers.

You're right Joe of OR, we will have both increase taxation and serious government cuts in spending. We should start by eliminating Bush's Tax Cuts of the Rich, restore inheritance taxes that affect only the very wealthiest and we should make sure multinationals are paying tax in this country if they are doing business here, starting with BP, Haliburton and the oil company cronyies.

Republicans and Democrats share the responsibility of this mess...entitlement is the problem, whether tax cuts or hand outs. Brandon Griefe nailes it with this piece, I will be voting for who can get us out this problem. What our Country needed was steady taxation, we are now beyond that however.

To get out of this mess our country is going to have to do some combination of these three solutions:

1) Increase Taxation

2) Serious and Painful Government cuts in spending (unlike any we have seen so far)

3) Defaulting on our debt. Greece is simply a foreshadow of where the US is headed.

I will be preparing my family by using a ROTH Ira savings account, I suggest the same to every other millenial who is paying attention. By the time this affects our daily lives it will be too late to prepare.

If I'm not mistaken it was largely the youth vote that bought into Obama's facile sloganeering and glib huckstering. They sucked up the charlatan's bumper sticker bilge and made it their Obamatronic Mantra.

That said, it must be acknowledged that youth from my era were equally vacuous. I recall groups of people playing Beatles records backwards - intently listening for the secrets of the universe hidden in the lyrics.

I'm still workin' on "Come Together", and " I Am A Walrus" - after 45 years - forward or backward. Goo Goo Ca Joob - Baby....

Come Together

"Here come old flattop he come grooving up slowly

He got joo-joo eyeball he one holy roller

He got hair down to his knee

Got to be a joker he just do what he please

He wear no shoeshine he got toe-jam football

He got monkey finger he shoot coca-cola

He say "I know you, you know me"

One thing I can tell you is you got to be free

Come together right now over me

He bag production he got walrus gumboot

He got Ono sideboard he one spinal cracker

He got feet down below his knee

Hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease

Come together right now over me

He roller-coaster he got early warning

He got muddy water he one mojo filter

He say "One and one and one is three"

Got to be good-looking 'cause he's so hard to see

Come together right now over me"

The writer seems to have completely overlooked the fact that it is the Republicans who put us into this debt (and deficit) meess, starting with Ronald Reagan's irresponsible tax-cuts and continuing through the debacle of the Bush Jr years. Worse than just spending more than they were willing to collect in taxes, they robbed the so-called `Social Security Trust Fund', so there is nothing left there but a collection of IOU's to paid by guess-who? The young! So if young voters are as dumb as their parents in trusting the very Republican crooks and incompetents who put us into this mess, then God help us all. But at least in our democracy, if it happens we can only blame ourselves for electing these irresponsible people again.
