She should be investigated for her wild spending. She is trying to erase the first admendment for americans who don't agree with her socialist elitst agenda. Comrade Pelosiovich needs to realize she is not the czarina of america!

I thought I would drop back in on this one and wow! – what a lot of crazies. Of course, the crazies are looking forward to their day in the sun on November 2. Hateful bastards that they are, spewing their venomous xenophobia toward immigrants, Muslims, and our Kenyan, socialist, secret Muslim President, and totally ignorant of the fact that they are simply being manipulated by a handful of extremely rich people, such as the Koch brothers, into voting for the same policies and ideology that have given us the greatest maldistribution of wealth and income in this country since the 1890s, high unemployment, an enormous increase in poverty levels, a shrinking middle class, an unwinnable war in Afghanistan, an erosion of our civil liberties. The Kochs and their like finance the Tea Party for what? To restrict the rights of Muslims to build mosques? No, they probably don’t care much about that. What they want is to shift the tax burden even further onto the middle and working classes, completely deregulate business and finance, crush any vestige of the labor movement or the environmental movement (anything that would cost them money they do not want to spend), and buy every politician that can be bought, so that they can complete their consolidation of power and totally sew up ownership of this country. Just as the bankers and landowners of my native South manipulated the rednecks throughout most of the 20th century into hatred of African-Americans, so do the backers of the Tea Party manipulate the 21st century hoopleheads against Muslims, and for the same purpose: unfathomable greed and their need for total power. Pelosi should have investigated the backers of the anti-mosque campaign; it might have revealed just what I am talking about.

Have you ever attended a "Tea Party"? If so, please tell me where and when, (not to mention who said anything) that the Tea Party was "Obnoxious" and please, explain which of the general views of the Tea Party participants you find obnoxious and what behaviour is obnoxious?

If you're okay with the rate of spending that's been done in the last 3 years, okay. You probably find the fact that MANY others are appauled and mad as can be about it, obnoxious.

If you mean, peacufully assembling where they have been given legal access to do so a behaviour that is obnoxious, you've probably also found the fact that they don't leave behind mountains of garbage offensive as well.

If you really don't believe that the constitution was written to protect the rights of the citizens of the United States of America, I can see how the Tea Parties consistant calling for our goverment to follow that law, obnoxious.

And by the way, the Tea Parties don't promote that Obama is a Muslim, they do at times though question his seemingly inability to celebrate anything Christian but all things Muslim.

If you truly believe that all the people who have attended Tea Parties do so as a way to insult you personally, let me assure you; You're just not that important in the grand scheme of things. And sir, you wouldn't like us much if you'd rather sit idly by as your goverment ignores your constitutional rights, strips you of these rights, asserts legal and economic pressure that is not witin its constitutional rights; if you find that insulting and legally prohibiting 75% of the USA's population from openly practicing their religion while cowtowing to other religions okay. And if you simply find people coming together and practicing their constitutional rights and duties obnoxious, please, stay at home.

The laws of The United States of America should be followed by one and all. If there is a doubt as to the law's constitutionality, it is the responsibility of the people to speak out, shout out and demand that that law be proven to be constitutional or be repealed. If our federal goverment does not follow the constitution and blatantly disregards or violates the law; what can be treasonous in this land?

By the way, Pelosi has and will continue to abuse her powers. The woman is a fantastic example of what a civil servant should never become. Any time that the SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE tells the citizens of our great country that we have to pass a law to find out what is in a law, then it's more than obvious that she's become more than OBNOXIOUS!

Battle doesn't give us a link to a place where the comments were reported, and he doesn't give us the source for the comments in the piece. I know this is flack, but let's have a tiny bit of substance.

Does U.S News still employ editors?

I'll post my comment again;

The tea parties are not a group in the sense that Muslims are. They are a voluntary political association defined by activities and beliefs, not an involuntary group defined by ascriptive traits. Most dictionaries describe ascription as "designating a society, group, etc. in which status is based on a predetermined factor, as age, sex, or race, and not on individual achievement." Religion, like the other characteristics, is ascriptive to the extent that people in that group are born into certain faiths which have a deeper primordial identity component than mere adopted political beliefs. In essence, there is a difference between one's adopted traits and one's ascriptive traits. Clearly, Muslim identity is an ascriptive trait. Tea partiers tacitly recognize this fact when they insist that Obama is a "Muslim" because of his father's faith despite the fact that Obama himself is a practicing Christian. Religion, thus, is more flexible an identity than is race, age or sex but still has cultural components which give it an ethnic character as well. This is especially true of Jews who are considered Jews by birth and not just by belief making Jewish identity ethnic as well as religious.

I reject tea parties for their obnoxious views and behavior. They associate for political purposes which I view as repugnant. Being a tea party member is not an ascriptive trait in any sense. It is a voluntary association and certainly not one into which people are born.

Elf Meister, perhaps there are ways to convey your sentiments without undermining the point you want to make.

As for Chris Battle, author of the article, his bio notes that he works in public relations. For who? Is this someone influential enough to get a smear published on behalf of his clients? Who are his clients? In the article, Battle is saying that his opinion is that, in effect, Pelosi said shut up to the American people. Yet it is being stated as though those were her actual words.

First, it is not a mosque, it is a neighborhood center. Second, a mosque was built inside the Pentagon without all the circus moves. Third, it is interesting that building the neighborhood center was no issue for months -- even on Fox News. Then someone identified it as a tool for wedge issue politics. Don't know about you, but I wish the politicians would drop the gotcha politics over things like this and get onto figuring out how to cut the deficit and create the right environment for jobs.

Dan of NV 9:28AM August 23, 2010

Im sorry but I can't help thinking that the placing of this Mosque near ground zero is by design. A Mosque is a house of worship not a house of controversy. There are certain people in this world that know just what to do to start a fight

You may be right.

But.

Remember the MA...

1. California 2. San Francisco This women could poop in her hands on live TV, smear it all over her face while laughing maniacally, drop kick a baby out of it's stroller and rant on about how the alien elves were going to fly down soon on their unicorns to take her up to the mother ship... And she would STILL get re-elected.
