Mexico polls
Tweet Share on Facebook June 28, 2006 Comment (1)Here are the final poll results in Mexico's July 2 presidential election. Under Mexican law, polls cannot be conducted after June 20, and results cannot be published after June 23. The results average out as follows: 36 percent for the PRD's Andrés Manuel López Obrador, 33 percent for the PAN's Felipe Calderón, and 27 percent for the PRI's Roberto Madrazo. The one poll that seems to be an outlier is the Milenio poll, which shows a lower number for Calderón and a higher one for Madrazo: without Milenio, the average is López Obrador 36, Calderon 34, and Madrazo 26. This looks like a very close election indeed; I'm headed to Mexico City on Thursday to see what I can find out.

Why do they hate us?
Tweet Share on Facebook June 26, 2006 CommentMy Creators Syndicate column this week is on the latest outrage perpetrated by the New York Times, last Friday's story detailing the government program to identify terrorist-financing transactions. Let me also pass along excellent commentary on Times editor Bill Keller's latest apologia (which was not available when I wrote my column) from Glenn Reynolds, Hugh Hewitt, Austin Bay, Ed Morrissey, and Scott Johnson. Five years ago I had not heard of any of these bloggers; today I seek out their work eagerly and with great profit.

Counsel advises breaking the law
Tweet Share on Facebook June 26, 2006 CommentThe Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlaws racial discrimination. I supported the act in 1964, and I support it now. But it appears that some large segments of the legal profession disagree. They're urging others to violate the act, in the name of "diversity."
