Last week, I was in the audience when Tom Wolfe delivered the 35th annual Jefferson Lecture sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
I had expected him to talk about the novel as the ultimate form of journalismsomething he's opined on before. Instead, he talked about, among other things, neuroscience. The lecture's title was "the Human Beast," and his ultimate message seemed to be, "We're not just beasts." Anyhow, I can't do justice to it, so read the whole thing.
Here's some of the other material on Wolfe from the NEH Web site. By the way, he was wearing his usual white suit, a white shirt with blue pinstripes, and a solid medium-blue tie.
