Elizabeth Edwards Should Not Be Defined by Her No-Good Husband
Tweet Share on Facebook December 7, 2010 Comment (2)It was a rare night on the campaign trail, but seeing as it was only my second trip covering then-Sen. John Edwards quest for the White House, I had no way of knowing how ironic the whole evening was, and in retrospect would become.

Maryland Lurches Left, Against the National GOP Tide
Tweet Share on Facebook November 5, 2010 Comment (3)As a conservative leaning independent, I should be thrilled. For like-minded people around the country, Tuesday was nothing short of spectacular. As someone of this philosophy living in Virginia, I should be elated. Three, and perhaps four, of the state’s congressional Democrats lost.
But as a native Marylander who is devoted to the Baltimore Orioles, hates the Indianapolis Colts, knows crabs are the best food on Earth and still remembers (and more to the point believes) the old marketing campaign that said Maryland was “America in Miniature,” I am nothing short of deflated.
The Republican Rock Star Bus Tour which stormed through nearly every state in the nation seems to have bypassed Maryland. I am still in denial.

After the 2010 Elections End, Governing Must Begin
Tweet Share on Facebook October 29, 2010 Comment (8)In five days it will all be over. Even if tight races in Alaska, Hawaii, and Nevada make those individual outcomes unknown as the sun rises on November 3, Election 2010 will be in the books.

The Thomas, Williams, and O'Donnell Stories are Beside the Point
Tweet Share on Facebook October 22, 2010 Comment (11)Why Virginia Thomas called Anita Hill after 19 years is anyone’s guess. She’ll never get the apology she wants. What’s clear from this week’s revelations is that opinions on the matter have changed little over time, and this revelation is merely a distraction that reminds us how far apart we really are.

Ehrlich Hammers O'Malley in Maryland Debate
Tweet Share on Facebook October 15, 2010 Comment (17)Diana is a middle school teacher in her 30s living in Maryland. She is passionate about two things: her students and her Baltimore Ravens.
After Martin O'Malley was elected governor, Diana moved back home because costs were escalating to a point where she could no longer afford to live independently. She hasn't moved out because her surviving parent is worried about job security and paying household expenses.
Diana can't wait for Election Day. She is voting for O'Malley's opponent, former Gov. Robert Ehrlich.

Republicans Should Watch What They Wish For

Melancon and Paladino Illustrate What's Wrong With Politics
Tweet Share on Facebook October 1, 2010 Comment (7)Democratic Louisiana Rep. Charlie Melancon and New York Republican Carl Paladino are both waging uphill battles in their races (for senator and governor, respectively). But both went too far this week in their efforts to win come November 2. They illustrate in real time what is wrong with American politics and why so many Americans are turned off by politics as usual.

Sarah Palin for President in 2012? No Thanks
Tweet Share on Facebook September 24, 2010 Comment (28)There was a story in a weekly newsmagazine a few years ago about Sarah Palin. This was not right after Sen. John McCain picked her from obscurity to be his running mate; the one I recall ran earlier. It was either shortly before or after her son, Trig, was born. My own son is a month younger than Trig, and I remember reading this article and thinking this woman is pretty impressive--she has a young family, she is conservative, and she doesn’t seem to take anything from anyone.

For Teresa Lewis, Execution Would Be Unjust
Tweet Share on Facebook September 17, 2010 Comment (25)Teresa Lewis is not a very nice person. She has no endearing qualities. Even though her IQ is in question, she will tell you what she did was horribly wrong. She knows and understands this.
Lewis should spend the rest of her life in jail. And by jail, I do not mean watching reality television as some news accounts have described her current situation. I mean sitting in a cell, thinking about the murders of her husband and stepson for which no one argues she is not responsible. Since she is only 41, she could be in jail for decades to contemplate her actions.
