Sure "Halliburton profits from Iraq War" went up". Stock price rose. You say "potential conflicts of interest." From that you conclude "Greed + corruption = Cheney". What a JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS. Observer of facts and conclusion __ Failing grade. Where is your hard evidence. Occurred a long time ago...

I noticed that in the time frame from 2002, when Halliburton's share price ranged from around $8 per share to a high in 2008 of about $52, how this 'oddly' coincided with the invasion of Iraq. That is over a 600% increase in the share price, which far exceeded the comparable return of the S & P index over the same time frame.

CNN Money, Sept 25, 2003. 'Halliburton (HAL: Research, Estimates) stock closed Thursday at $24.72. The Morningstar stock rating service gives Halliburton a C-minus grade for growth, D-plus for profitability and a B for financial health, even though Halliburton secured $2.25 billion in contracts in Iraq, including a controversial $1.25 billion no-bid contract.'

'The report says that the deferred compensation that Cheney receives from Halliburton as well as the more than 433,000 stock options he possesses "is considered among the 'ties' retained in or 'linkages to former employers' that may 'represent a continuing financial interest' in those employers which makes them potential conflicts of interest." '

Hmm. Seems like his 'former' company did quite well with the invasion of Iraq. I'm not sure mind you, but there really does seem to be a connection.

Greed + corruption = Cheney. Wouldn't want to have that guy's karma.

If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."

--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."

-Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."

-- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."

-- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."

While Cheney might never face war crime trials as he should, he will be seen in history as the criminal against humanity that he is.

It sad that Cheney will not play the part of a senior statesman as he continues to just be the punk he always has been, whether its Iran-Contra or the WMD hoax.

But let's just hope Cheny's ticker holds out til the next election, because anytime they drag out this old troll its only good for Democrats People realize that Republican policies are outright evil when they see the embodiment of evil in this former vice president.

a fine column depicting the wrong doings of dick"5 defements"cheney.the pugnacious and churlish former v.p. apparently his being a party to the outing of c.i.a. agent valerie plame was not sufficient.now he;s gone after two highly respected former public servants, condoleezza rice and colin powell.

this is being done ,in part, as attempt to put a patina on his badly damaged image, futher pump up his giant ego while adding to his considerable wealth.

Dick Cheney is the worst, most-self serving, and totally souless human being every to be hold the Vice-Presidential position. He is responsible for the deaths of over a 100,000 innocent human beings, gained his fortune by selling his government experience to grease palms and open doors for Halliburton, and refuses ever to admit a mistake in his entire wretched career.

judith of CA 5:29PM August 29, 2011

DICKIE Cheney was responsible - ultimately - for outing Plame.

Billyoh of NE 5:22PM August 29, 2011

Yeah... kinda' like Dick's 180 degree on Iraq: There is a monumental 180-degree difference between the Dick Cheney seen in the recently unearthed 1994 C-Span footage who calmly explains why it would be a terrible disaster for America to invade Iraq -- and the Dick Cheney we have all seen since 2001 who is the primary cheerleader for the Iraq war and occupation which has resulted in the death of nearly 4,000 Americans.

Worst VP (well, he was the president) of all time.

Tell The Truth of MO 5:20PM August 29, 2011

It was Richard Armitage who outed Valerie Plame. If you're going to write tripe, at least get your facts straight.
