Yes this govt shutdown is an assault on our country with intent to damage the USA, kinda like bin Laden. These bums hate this country and are doing everything they can to trip it up.

Clearly Beohner is unable to control the all the backbiting weasels in the house and he should ask all these skunk Republicans to swear an oath to the Constitution again.

Trillions in debt are an assault on America you loon. You libs could confiscate every dollar of income and it would not satiate the desire to spend.

We'll see how this plays out when the economy crashes under the crushing weight of debt.

Are you a rich guy or what? The taxes on a factory in the US is the second and soon to be, the highest in the world, thats why they all go to China (jobs are lost). We are also overtaxed. My family makes around 100k. For 4 people, that is not enough . We only take in 65k after taxes, and another 15k is gone in house taxes. Then taxes on everything else, brings 100k salary down to 40k. This is WAY more then war fought the revolutionary war over. Taxed Enough Already, or the TEA party is the only group of people that can return this country to the true republic it is spouse to be under the constitution. The big cooperations like Goldman Sacks and JP Morgan are running our government, not the American people, and they even brag about it in books they write... If you want real info, not this piece of garbage article, go to infowars.com. Get informed about whats really happening in our government and how we can save it.

Funny some of the people who commented actually know history and know what they are talking about. I have yet to read a comment from anyone of you liberals that can actually use facts to back up what you are saying.

We as a nation cannot continue to spend more than the government steals from the tax payer. There is a problem when the government barrows 40 cents of every dollar it spends, because it only brings in 60 cents in taxes. That’s like me making $10,000 per month and having $14,000 in monthly bills, in order to pay the rest of my bills I need to go to the bank very month and barrow $4,000 to pay the other 40% of my bills and then not paying the bank back. How long do you think the bank(s) will continue to loan me money? They're not and eventually they are going to come after me payment. If you don't think that the countries that hold America's debt aren't going to collect on that debt someday, you are sadly mistaken. What happens when they refuse to lend the U.S. anymore money. Oh my I bet the big bad government is going to making cuts left and right. We may as well accept those facts now and get the budget under control. By the way you are entitled to few things. 1. Your freedoms you are guaranteed under the constitution and 2. What you can earn off of the sweat of your own brow. I am tired of hearing the rich in this country don't pay enough and they need to pay more to distribute the wealth. My question is when are the non earns going to earn their fare share of the sweat of their own brow instead of someone else's?

Tax Cuts don't work, as much as some want to whitewash the real causes of our deficits and current recession.

Our problem isn't too much taxes, considering our taxation in the US is lowest its been in 50 yrs. Our revenue problem is that too many aren't paying enough taxes or any taxes at all. Many major corporations are paying an effective zero tax rate.

We need to roll back the Reagan tax cuts, that set us into this deficit mode.

“The tax cuts of the 1920s”

“Tax rates were slashed dramatically during the 1920s, dropping from over 70 percent to less than 25 percent. What happened? Personal income tax revenues increased substantially during the 1920s, despite the reduction in rates. Revenues rose from $719 million in 1921 to $1164 million in 1928, an increase of more than 61 percent.”

The Kennedy tax cuts”

“President Hoover dramatically increased tax rates in the 1930s and President Roosevelt compounded the damage by pushing marginal tax rates to more than 90 percent. Recognizing that high tax rates were hindering the economy, President Kennedy proposed across-the-board tax rate reductions that reduced the top tax rate from more than 90 percent down to 70 percent. What happened? Tax revenues climbed from $94 billion in 1961 to $153 billion in 1968, an increase of 62 percent (33 percent after adjusting for inflation).”

“The Reagan tax cuts”

“Thanks to "bracket creep," the inflation of the 1970s pushed millions of taxpayers into higher tax brackets even though their inflation-adjusted incomes were not rising. To help offset this tax increase and also to improve incentives to work, save, and invest, President Reagan proposed shweeping tax rate reductions during the 1980s. What happened? Total tax revenues climbed by 99.4 percent during the 1980s, and the results are even more impressive when looking at what happened to personal income tax revenues. Once the economy received an unambiguous tax cut in January 1983, income tax revenues climbed dramatically, increasing by more than 54 percent by 1989 (28 percent after adjusting for inflation).’

“Harmful Spending & Complexity

Lower tax rates are important, but they are not the only critical issue. Both the level of government spending and where that money goes are very important. And even when looking only at tax policy, tax rates are just one piece of the puzzle. If certain types of income are subject to multiple layers of tax, as occurs in the current system, that problem cannot be solved by low rates. Similarly, a tax system with needless levels of complexity will impose heavy costs on the productive sector of the economy.”

“Since 1978, the U.S. has cut the highest marginal earned-income tax rate to 35% from 50%, the highest capital gains tax rate to 15% from about 50%, and the highest dividend tax rate to 15% from 70%. President Clinton cut the highest marginal tax rate on long-term capital gains from the sale of owner-occupied homes to 0% for almost all home owners. We’ve also cut just about every other income tax rate as well.”

“During this era of ubiquitous tax cuts, income tax receipts from the top 1% of income earners rose to 3.3% of GDP in 2007 (the latest year for which we have data) from 1.5% of GDP in 1978. Income tax receipts from the bottom 95% of income earners fell to 3.2% of GDP from 5.4% of GDP over the same time period. (See the nearby chart).”

Well, CBO says rich paid more taxes with Bush tax cuts:

“According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the Bush tax cuts actually shifted the total tax burden farther toward the rich so that in 2000-2004, total income tax paid by the top 40% of income-earners grew by 4.6% to 99.1% of the total.”

this situation comes from the uber repub strategy of defunding the government

starving it of tax resources, then claiming we cant afford to provide services

they dont believe in governance or civil society, they want america to be weak

whats the difference between what the teaparty and al quaeda want

they have been starving it for years now, now the bills are coming in and

they using it to cripple america when we most in need of a strong government

both domestically and foreign affairs, we have to make a strong effort to place

the blame of this where it belongs over the next couple of weeks/months

because the repub machine will be going full tilt w/the big lies, my concern is

that obama and the dems will fold, which will not only lose an important principle

but it will cripple the nascent recovery and make them more vulnerable in 2012

a point which has not escaped the republicans, we got to take a stand on this one
