Sarah Palin Is No Friend of Women in Politics

Evidently no one, judging from your "back to the stone age" rant. It was well past the stone age, 1961, when my mother was days away from a perfectly legal aborton (hear that? a legal abortion in this country in 1961!) which did not in fact happen because the doctor decided that at her stage of pregnancy, the abortion would be riskier than the delivery (it was the near-death in the previous delivery that raised the question in the first place but in those days, an abortion was a medical question, not yet a political right). Jamie whines about "policing our bodies," but anyone with a decent education and rational powers knows that if an abortion takes place, at least two, and generally three or four other bodies are involved, two of them victims and one or two medical staff. When Jamie conceives with no man involved and it can be proven that what she is killing (there is no debate about it being alive) is not a human being, why then we'll talk. Until then, if you're going to blog, at least try to be rational.

from conception to natural death is deserving of respect - none more than the innocent in the womb.

That's about as simple as it gets.

Interesting to see all the reactions here, which seem mostly from the "pro-life" crowd. I'm wouldn't be surprised if this got posted on some Christian echo chamber in order to get people to write those comments.

In any case, Sarah Palin is not a feminist. That would involve some belief in empowering women. This is the mayor of the town where its women were forced to buy their own rape kits, which could cost up to $1200. Palin cut funding to a half-way house for teenage mothers. She sides with those who fight *against* equal pay for women, fights *against* legislation to combat violence against women.

She isn't a feminist. She's a female. There's a difference there, which is beyond her comprehension and many of those commenters here.

It's amazing how many women view feminism as a woman's right to kill her unborn child. I'm fine with abortion being legal, but stop trying to make it appear noble. The fact that you vilify any woman who demonstrates success or independence that does not support a prodeath policy on demand clearly shows that your brand of 'feminism' is a fraud.

It is abundantly clear that fembots, like the columnist, have disdain for Sarah Palin, because they have disdain for conservative women - and men for that matter - particularly those who are pro life.

Re: "If Palin and her female friends are willing to police other womens' bodies, then there's one big thing you cannot do. Don't call yourself a feminist, too."

No one against abortion cares about policing anyone's body. They CARE about the male AND FEMALE babies whose genes prove they are no more part of a woman's body than a doll in a vase is part of the vase.

No one against prostitution cares about policing anyone's body. They CARE about health and happiness for all affected that results from the culture of family fidelity and stability.

This is for Mark of Missouri, to your query, if anyone should be arrested for sex work or prostitution, it's the "johns" - customers- not the prostitutes. For the Virginia reader who read the word "blameless" wrongly - please go back and see that I said that Sarah Palin NOT to blame for creating the "List." I would love to know more about that organization. On a closing note, I appreciate the kind and thoughtful words, all from women, from states all over the nation.

(No men in 2010 that support reproductive rights?)

Jamie,

You said:

Question: Is arresting a woman for selling her body for sex "policing her body"?

If so I sure hope you fight for "prostitution rights" along with abortion rights. I mean it is common sense.... if a woman has the right to abort a fetus within her body, why should she not have the right to sell her body as she sees fit?

A true feminist ( in your definition) should fight for prostitution rights.

If you do not agree please explain to me why and your stand on this issue.

Thanks,

Mark

Ms. Stiehm, thank you for your words of wisdom. Susan B. and Sarah P. are in completely different leagues. Sarah Palin is vacuous and self-serving. Her ideology is frightening, indeed. I'm not a member of the GOP but there MUST be a more qualified "leader" for this party, than Palin.

Cheryl of DC 5:51PM December 01, 2010

Sarah Palin did not "create" the Susan B. Anthony List. The SBA List was founded in 1992.
