Scott Brown’s Victory Dims the Obama Glow

I do enjoy knowing I've irritated folks like you and Bill from MO..

Your assessment of me is only partially correct. While it is true that I am often a contrarian and sometimes condescending - I do take umbrage to the being thought of as "smug", thoughtless, and lacking substance.

First, anyone with a whit of common sense knows that Obama, Reid and Pelosi set the standard for puckered up smugness. Now, don't try and blame Botox for Pelosi's shrewish, puckered, puss. I think she tried Botox to numb the pucker. Besides, Reid has the same contorted, shriveled mug. Now, Obama goes for the, "You're a fool and I'm cool.", swagger and smirk. All define arrogant smugness. Tell me Grundy, have you ever called them on it? Didn't think so.

With regard to, lack of "substance" and thought, well, I can only say that I apply as much thought and substance as is necessary to the situation or subject. For instance, debating you requires little. I mean, why waste my precious bodily substance on a light weight topic or a facile thinker such as yourself? Oh... there I go, being "condescending" again - you got me.

Finally, you and Bill-MO don't need to rush to Jamie's defense. Heck, she's got more degrees than I have fishin' poles, and I love to fish. She's a bright lady, and I can tell she reads a bunch. It is for this reason that I expect more from her than a whiny (though very well written) commentary, longing for the bygone days of an imagined Camelot, and girlish grieving over things that might have been.

I do so love our little chats, Grundy. Happy New Year.

The short answer to your question is, yes, R.L. is always that condescending. He is a contrarian. No substance, just claptrap. This is obviously not the venue for thoughtful discourse, but a magnet for smug, unrealistic hecklers.

OBAMA MAY YET GET IT--MAY BE

The President doesn't seem to still get it. The problem is not that abstract as the President expressed it; it is a practical one. When he speaks about values, which one? And does he play into the hands of rightwing critics who have always maintained that he does not understand “our values.” Value issues are always polarizing and will never be the basis for building political consensus in the current social milieu. The key to success in the future for Democrats is JOB, JOB, JOB. Furthermore, the President must govern as a leader with some fundamental conviction. He must work to implement his agenda, always explaining that it is in fulfillment of the mandate the country gave him in 2008. His marriage with Wall Street must end and a new alliance with his base must be forged. You don't need 60 Senators to do this. When Democrats had 60 Senators, what did they do with it? They were sabotaged by internal corruption and divisions rooted in some Senators corrupt alliances with corporate interests. Therefore, they became self-destruct. The President’s political advisers, along with the DNC, need to spend their time more on developing smart strategies, on grassroots organizing, than globetrotting with the POTUS or seating with him at Cabinet meetings. They need to again re-connect with young people, middle class voters, labor, unions, minority communities, women, the educated, the working class, and the gay community. They need to start listening more.

His glow is now about as transparent now as his skin color. Liars always get caught and eventually all the failures and corruption get everyone's true attention. Good riddance to him in 2012 and all his corrupt accomplices in Nov 2010!! We are all glowing with every liberal defeat!!

Go Green Up ur azz 10:35PM January 20, 2010

Wow R.L., are you always that condescending?

But anyone who says being "black" in American politics on the national level is an advantage is making a joke. How many black Senators do we have? How many in the House? Wow, I wish I were black so I could get all of that.

BillInSTL of MO 10:05PM January 20, 2010

Jamie, if the rest of the Democrats miss the message of yesterday's MA election as much as you did, this November is going to be a blood bath for Democrats. I can hardly wait.

Brad of TX 9:10PM January 20, 2010

Grow up. Obama is nothing more than an egotistical, glib, green-socialist. If a "white" junior senator, with Obama's weak background, had spewed that load of crap, punctuated with bumper sticker slogans, he would have been laughed off stage.

In your heart you know this is true. Now, be a big girl and throw away the shinny brass ring - your finger is turning green.

It's not unlike the people that keep their Christmas tree & outside lights well past the New Year .Still up huh ? Everyone basks in the positive ,selfless vibe.It really would be great if "they could bottle it".But,reality rears it's ugly head when the tree drys out -becoming a fire hazard, the eggnog has separated & either your six yr. old or the family pooch/ kitty keeps knocking the glass ornaments onto the floor.
