Recalling Obama’s Inauguration

George Washington wrote a farewell speech to politics before riding off into the sunset. It was written in 1796... what you could call a thank you and a warning against the "baneful effects of the spirit of party" politic.

It is a good read for those who forget history or what you could call the current state of affairs in this country of ours.

This is the way I see this presidency or any presidency for the past 20-30 years. Its all a sham and a hypocrasy to call this a democracy. We are witnessing the new age of the United Socialist States of America.

Neither, niether or either is this a two party political sytem in the way our forebearers intended for our country. Its been turned into a one party system which deludes itself into thinking its a two party democracy. Both parties curry favor from us by telling us what we want to hear without telling us what we need to hear.

What we have become is a fact as follows,"The Repubicans and Democrats are one and the same." Two different sides of the same coin. Either one is nothing more than a wooden knickle. Bad for the country, bad for the people, bad for the present and the future.

Maybe you did soil yourself. I happen to be at work right now and the chuckles I got from reading this piece and the supporting comments has brought tears to my eyes.

Tears of laughter!

People getting shivers up their spine and tingles in the legs and sparkles before their eyes. This is downright hilarious! It gives credence to those folks who believe that you are drinking the same kool-aid.

Fromn the way you glorify the moment... I am suprised that you didn't soil yourself!

This piece brought me right back to that emotional moment a year ago. The shivers up the spine that so many of us felt that day (and which this article provokes) will inspire Americans to advance the President's agenda in future campaigns because emotional memory is nonlinear. In the meantime, pragmatism has taken center stage. We are fortunate that the President has the range of talents to not only rally popular support during a campaign but to actually get legislation passed.

Adrian B of DC wrote: "Or should we just shut up and remember how much better he is than the last guy." Please quantify that blatant statement. What exactly has Obama done that makes him better? I hope your not implying his "Nobel Peace Prize" because that's all he's taking credit for and even then it was given on a lack of merit.

Please note, this isn't necessarily directed at you, Adrian, but everyone likes the virtue of hindsight to cherry pick especially concerning the former president. But, what if Bush had maintained Clinton's status quo following 9/11? What would have happened? You see no one likes that what-if game. Yet we took action on 9/11 to eliminate the what-if's. You, I, and every American can be thankful Bush was at the helm.

I can well imagine the nefarious scenarios that would have played had we failed to act. Liberals (societies doves) live in a fantasy land. They think that we deal with terrorist the same way you deal with a neighbor. They think terrorists are just poor, unfortunate, misunderstood, and misguided souls.

That's a bunch of hog wash and is patently false. Here's the reality: terrorists are fanatics that blow-up their own citizens, and chop the heads off people. These are terrorists that would delight in putting a bullet between our eyes. We, as a people, need to know with what we are dealing. We (collectively) need to understand there is no talking, no discussion, no finding common ground. These animals are not rational or logical. We deal with unadulterated evil and it's a scourge that has to be destroyed.

The problem is, American's have become soft. So soft that we can't fathom this depth of hatred. We think we can because we see it in the fantasy land created by Hollywood. But, truth be told, we can't deal with the reality. So fear presents us with two choices. Fight or flight. The left, wants to tuck tail, run, and beg for mercy from the merciless. They believe that if we leave them alone, they'll leave us alone. Guess what, that's why we're in the fix we are in. The were left to scheme and devise unfettered. Now we pay the price for our ignorance. Fortunately, though, there are still a few of us left who will stay and fight.

How long ago it seems. Almost like it happened in another lifetime, in another universe. It is still too early to rule on the success of the Obama presidency, but there is no question that the feeling that lingered in the air that day is gone. Is it the inevitable let-down of getting what you want? Is it the ineffectiveness inherent in the American government? Is that we have elected a lilly-livered, middle-of-the-road guy who we thought was a radical? Or should we just shut up and remember how much better he is than the last guy?
