Single and Ready to Mingle With the GOP

The GOP can help close the gender gap by wooing young, single women

Surprisingly, there is very little gender difference when it comes to attitudes about abortion: majorities of both men and women think it should be legal under certain circumstances. But I do think if Republicans would soften their rhetoric on abortion, they'd do well with younger unmarried women as well. The party should remain opposed to abortion, but leave room for compassion when women are the victims of rape, incest, and life-threatening situations. Being "pro-life with exceptions" would allow young women who are morally uncomfortable with abortion but who don't want to overturn Roe v. Wade to feel they have a political home. Right now, they don't.

Young women are not a monolithic voting bloc. The party that treats them as vital contributors to a strong economy, as citizens who can create a better life for everyone, as empowered souls who can overcome adversity, and as bright minds who will be our future leaders will win their votes. Republicans should move quickly.
