The difference is Obama ALWAYS USES A prompter. Of course politicians all use prompters. But Obama uses a prompter for everything even small campaign rallies.

Schlesinger did address your ridiculous claim Fidel, Fl. All presidential speeches are prepared beforehand and have been for a long time. You can see Ronald Reagan reading from his cue cards and you can see Bush stumbling reading his teleprompter. The difference is Obama has given a lot more speeches and has addressed the nation more frequently. Obama has also probably given more town meetings and open debates than Bush Jr and Reagan combined which are all done off the cuff without a telemprompter in order to personally take the pulse of the nation and ordinary people. That is why you have people like Joe the Plumber hit the media. Your response to the article just shows how true Schlesinger article rings true and how some prefer to make absurd claims as an attack on character rather than intelligently debate the real issues the country faces.

Silliness. Amazing after 8 years of George Bush mangling the English language Pubs think Obama is too dumb to speak off the cuff, which he does all the time. Sure, it's a bit of a crutch, but big deal. Perhaps, Newt, Rick and Mitt should also be using telepropmters since they have to retract or explain everything they say. You can disagree with Obama on everything, but the ex-editor of the Harvard Law Review (who has a huge hand is writing most of his own speeches) is not stupid. However, the C student cheerleader George Bush.......he wasn't exactly stupid, but he was way in over his head.

Schlesinger's is a classic strawman argument. Noone is suggesting that teleprompters have no place in politics. Instead, the real argument, which schlesinger evades, is that obama is entirely dependant on his teleprompter, including in bizarre situations, like small staff meetings around a conference table in the white house, "informal" visits to grade school students in their classroom, a rodeo etc., which gives the appearance [or reveals the reality] that he is a clueless automoton delivering the words and thoughts of others. Why is it when Obama gives a teleprompter speech that he cannot speak to the issue that he just spoke about?It's because he cannot speak from the heart and has to read comments written by others,most of the time it appears as if he is reading it for the first time

Liberals claim that Obama is the smartest person to ever hold the office of the presidency,but needs a teleprompter to speak to elementary school students.
Everyone that has ever heard Obama speak without Mr. Teleprompter knows that he gets the Plugs Biden disease ,foot in mouth everytime he tries it.
If Obama is as smart as liberals claim then why doesn't he release his school transcripts?You would think that he would want to show the world how much smarter he is than George Bush.
