How did your opinion of Petraeus change after completing the book?

Embedding with the HQ in Afghanistan gave me a new perspective for the burdens of war from the commander's point of view. We really try to show in the book how heavy the rucksack of command can be for the senior commander, with the constant flow of bad news about a war that has waning domestic political support. It is not an easy job to do, and it takes its toll on leaders of every rank and stripe.

Ms Broadwell will have to be more incisive in her thought process if she wants to progress - esp in a european environment. She couldn't have dribbled more in gratefulness for the embeddment offered by Mr Petraeus and the military.
