Should Mitt Romney Release His Tax Returns?

He should get this behind him. We will hear the Warren Buffet rule for a while. We will again examine why very wealthy people pay at lower rates than the middle class. We will again question why Republicans are so insistent on maintaining the carried interest exception that allows billionaire hedge fund managers to pay at such low rates. And then we can forget about it again.

Someone will promote the falsehood that a Democrat or all Democrats have said higher taxes on the wealthy will cure the deficit (and then prove that straw man to be mathematically untrue) when all that has been said is that it would help ease the deficit.

It would be better for Romney to rip that band-aid off now.
