Don't Assume the Hispanic Vote Is a Democratic Lock

Don't be silly. The Hispanic Vote for the Democrats is a virtual lock. The Media and Hispanic Leaders are allowing this myth to spread in order to entice GOP candidates into thinking there is any chance that they can attract a significant portion of the Hispanic vote. Apparently this is a strategy that is likewise being advanced by "Big Tent" Republican Leadership as a means to offset the expected loss of votes with their core voters, true conservatives and independents, who are disappointed by GOP Leaders and incumbents refusal to take a stand on this issue that is in keeping with the will of the conservative majority, that our borders be secured and our immigration laws enforced..

as a tea party member i resent being called a raciest and anti immigrant. this great country was built by immigrants and my family were immigrants. i and the tea party are against illegal immigrants as you should be. there must be some control on who we let in based on who he or she is, not based on race. it just happens at the moment its hispanics who are floodind across our boarder. what would you be saying if they happen to be say irish or french.

as opposed to the liberal main stream media's steady spin. This "Latino" has voted Republican since I was 18 and I'm 54 and so has my family for generations. I live in California and I've steadily seen a marked "3rd world" influence steadly degrade our neighborhoods, emergency rooms, tax burden and politics and frankly, I'm disgusted by it.

Bob Guevara of CA 12:53PM August 30, 2011

Interesting. Most tea members may be against__ ILLEGALS__. Law breaker by definition. Tell me promises obama has keep towards immigrants ? obama must be RACIST. Democrats had the power to pass that legislation.

You believe in our Constitution & laws so you must agree as well. My family make up is from England and German ancestry. Coming here legally. Not all coming here, wanting in, got in.

If your vote depends on making illegals legal, well then, you won't vote for us...

The Hispanic vote leans to the Democrats, out of their own self interests to be sure, because Democrats seem to take governing seriously, Democrats are not willing to give away the country to corruption, and Democrats represent working and middle class people - the majority of the country.

I agree Maria Elena of CA

No one can take the Hispanic vote for granted, or of any immigrant vote. I know that newer immigrants usually are extremely patriotic and most are as disgusted with the obstructionism of what seems like the unpatriotic tea party crowd, as immigrants who have been here longer as we are an immigrant nation. We are offended by the persistent dishonesty attacking the US and its usually the same ones attacking any immigration into this country.

No coincidence that most tea partyiers are anti-immigrant and tend to be racist nativists. Unlike these people who hate our government and are doing everything they can to undermine it, immigrants to the US recognize everyone isn't born with a silver spoon in their mouths and the egalitarian framework laid out in the US Constitution offers opportunity to everyone. Government is Adam Smith's 'Invisible Hand' that referees the free markets of capitalism. The US government is the foundation our economy is built on. Immigrants recognize this and also know about corruption that wants to sway government as what's attacking the US right now.

Immigrants have had to take class on citizenship and are informed about the government, unlike the misinformed harden political flunkies who attack the government all the time. Most recognize that modern industrialised nations have government safety nets, government providing health care, and government job creation, not to mention a infrastructure and defense that make a country strong.

Yes, the government of the US is what has made this country great and is the reason most people immigrated here - and of course everyone in the US is from immigrant stock unless you're a native American.

1. "government providing health care"

We have better plan. CBO says we can not afford obamacare.

2. "government creating a big jobs program which the country desperately needs"

Been there. Done that. Didn't work. Business friendly government will get the $$$ trillions private section working to create jobs. Put EPA bad regulations on their knees. Government has no money.

3. "all provide health care for their citizens"

We have obamacare now, well, some. Must wait 4+ years after passage. Thank a Democrat.

Our plan would have been in effecr quickly.

4. "Jobs"

Didn't they take care of that. They controlled Congress. Our No did not stop their agenda.

5. "jobs program"

Not going to repeat Democrat failed program:

Our job plans:

a. We passed Ryan's bill with more than $$$ 4 trillion in savings. brucetee, like you say, Senate could have adjusted the bill here and there and passed, sending back to House.

b. Dodd-Frank repeal. This bill cost jobs. This bill does not even apply to Fannie and Freddie. Can do better bill.

c. EPA_ Oh the jobs their present and coming regulations cost.

d. Open up government lands to energy production. Jobs, jobs, jobs. Much of oil shale is there. # 1 provider of oil to USA is Canada, their oil come from oil shale. Opens up more oil from Alaska and helps feed the oil pipe line that is dying because of lack of oil supply. Open up off shore oil restrictions. Stop buying from other Countries. Let money stay in America to create jobs here.

e. Repatriation Act. This is a difficult one to accomplish. The anti-business atmosphere as I have briefly described, gives them little reason to come back with tax liabilities here.

f. obama care. " AT&T; will see a $1 billion tax increase in just the first quarter. Leads to job cuts.

g. "Timothy Geithner and Barack Obama’s Continued Economic Failures". Fire both. At least Geithner:

Since 1917, first time America does not have AAA.

Bill Hedges of MO 10:07PM August 10, 2011

Middle class white, black, Asian and Latino voters should vote their own economic interests. One party is opposed to the government safety nets, government providing health care, government creating a big jobs program which the country desperately needs. The Republicans want to make government smaller and smaller. The governments of Canada, France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, etc. all provide health care for their citizens, housing and jobs. This is what the Democrats have tried to do, but with Republicans voting NO on all these things and Republicans having enough votes to fillibuster, they have only gotten part of the health care program through. Now they are trying to get a jobs program. But at least the Obama administration just made birth control free in our health insurance plans. Government programs certainly help all of us immigrants.

i am a Caucasian who married an Hispanic woman. She has ten siblings, six of which reside here in the US, two in Canada, and three in Mexico City. All, save one (lives in Argentina), were born here and are as legal as you and me.

I am a conservative who believes Obama is wrong from every direction, every level, and every facet, where a POTUS is concerned, and, as such, i don't like the guy and I want him out ASAP.

ALL of her siblings, wifey inclusive, absolutely DESPISE Obama!

Now, thankfully, all of my in-laws are very nice, congenial, and courteous, but take my word for it, verbally, they will knock your socks off with their very colorfully negative evaluation of this POTUS, and then some!

If anyone out there believes Obama has the Hispanic vote .....you are wrong~wrong~wrong!

" Republicans continued vilification of immigrants, anti-immigrant laws that encourage racial profiling"

You, like so many, can seem to grasp the difference between legal immigrants, and illegal immigrants.

Let me explain it as simply as possible:

LEGAL IMMIGRANT : A person whom comes into this country by obeying the laws that control immigration.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT: A person whom comes into this country by bypassing the laws that control immigration.

You will be hard pressed to find anyone who is against LEGAL immigrants.

You will also be hard pressed to justify why we should tolerate and coddle those whom are breaking the laws.

junior of DC 4:45PM August 06, 2011

1. "Republicans continued vilification of immigrants, anti-immigrant laws that encourage racial profiling"

"Racial profiling", can you explain that ? In AZ their law went to the Federal Supreme Court. Maybe they are anti-illegals.

"Racial profiling" would be Mexico's laws.

2. "Anti-immigrant work of politicians such as Lamar Smith"

Article by By Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) is Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee

"President Obama called on Congress to approve comprehensive immigration reform, also known as “amnesty.”

"The president blamed Republicans for supposedly blocking comprehensive immigration reform. But what he didn’t say was that during the past two years Democrats held strong majorities in both Houses of Congress. Amnesty had bipartisan opposition, and was opposed by the American people"

"Time and again, the American people have defeated amnesty attempts by politicians who are pandering to liberal interest groups. American voters know that if you reward illegal actions, you’ll only encourage more of them. Amnesty for illegal immigrants only leads to more illegal immigration."

"That’s exactly what happened after the last amnesty. In 1986, Congress legalized an estimated 3 million illegal immigrants. It didn’t fix the problem, it only made it worse. Today, there are more than 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States."

"While highly-skilled legal immigrants are strong contributors to the American economy, illegal immigration is the opposite. According to one study, illegal immigration costs American taxpayers an estimated $113 billion each year. Many states face a fiscal crisis due to costs related to illegal immigration, including education, health care and incarceration of criminal aliens."

"The president claims that once they achieve legal status illegal immigrants will begin to pay taxes, but that simply isn’t true. Low-skilled workers don’t pay federal income taxes. In fact, low-skilled workers often receive a check from the Internal Revenue Service. Plus they are eligible for Social Security benefits, so illegal immigrants actually cost taxpayers a lot of money."

"In addition to the fiscal burden, illegal workers take jobs that rightly belong to U.S. citizens and legal immigrants. More than 26 million Americans are unemployed or underemployed. Meanwhile, seven million individuals are working illegally in the United States."

"The president was right about one thing – we are a nation of immigrants. But we are a nation of legal immigrants. We have the most generous legal immigration policy in the world—admitting one million immigrants each year. We do not need to reward millions of illegal immigrants who broke our laws and came into the U.S. illegally."
