Has Michele Bachmann Eclipsed Sarah Palin?

It seems the Tea Party, mama-bear space isn't big enough for the two of them

There are many parallels between Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann—and not simply because they are the GOP’s only serious female 2012 prospects. The two fill the same Tea Party, mama-bear space, and they both love to creatively interpret history. But, as pundits speculate whether the two are friends or foes, it seems that space isn’t big enough for the two of them.

U.S. News’s Whispers column (“Bachmann: The Smart Version of Palin”) pits the two against each other in education (Bachmann wins), family (Bachmann), politics (Palin), fundraising (Bachmann), and other areas. “So how is the nation supposed to choose between Sarah Palin and Rep. Michele Bachmann if they both get into the presidential race?” Whispers asks. “In a word: smarts. If we had to make a pick based on school smarts and book smarts, Bachmann would win. Because when it comes to picking presidents, the nation has a history of going for the brainy candidates.” [Check out political cartoons about the 2012 GOP field.]

And when it comes to lame-stream media attention, Bachmann has a habit of absorbing the spotlight when Palin fades. When Palin laid low after what many called her narcissistic response to the tragic shooting at Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Gifford’s “Congress on Your Corner” event in January, Bachmann entered center stage with her Tea Party response to President Obama’s State of the Union speech. After the media din subsided from Palin’s to-campaign-or-not-to-campaign New England bus tour, Bachmann came on strong and articulate in Monday's GOP debate and had the media cycle saying, Sarah who? WHY WOULD AMERICANS WANT A MORE "INTELLENGENT" LAWYER WHEN MOST OF CONGRESS WITH A 20 SOME % AMERICAN APROVAL RATING ARE LAWYERS? THINK THIS OVER AND CONSIDER A NON ELITIST AMERICAN LIKE PALIN . THE EXTREME LEFT IS OBSESSED WITH DISTROYING HER WITH DISTORTIONS, LIES AND NAME CALLING , AND THEY ARE FRANTIC THAT THEY HAVE NOT YET SUCCEEDED. ALL BECAUSE SHE HAS GOVERNED AND SUCCEEDED FOR REAL REFORM MOST FOLKS CLAIM THEY WANT. THIS SCARES THE LEFT TO DEATH.

Why not throw in TX Gov Rick Perry as a Presidential candidate... the ship of fools will then be complete. All three of them (Bachmann, Palin, Perry) spin a good yarn but say little, if anything, that resembles reality. Living in TX, I'm constantly amazed that we have so many GOP "pod people" (I'm always certain aliens must have taken over their bodies) that always vote Republican, no questions asked.. EVER. Try to engage them in a conversation about "facts" and you'll get an ear-covering, foot-stomping response worthy of any 3 yr old.

when we are even asked if these two women with voices that set your teeth on edge are viable....

how much dumb, pandering, fake, money-hungry, ill-informed are we supposed to tolerate? As a woman I ma disgusted....and feel like the press is giving undue time to both of these ditzes unqualified for anything beyond clubbing fish.

This country has really fallen. In other leading nations, they would laugh if anyone proposed fools like either Bachmann or Palin run for the highest office in the land. The level of discourse in this country has fallen so far, and these clowns were taken too seriously - our allies and other leading nations are losing respect for us. I hear lots from overseas - and they think this country has lost it when we allow bubbleheads to debate serious leadership issues. Intellect, training, good manners, diplomacy - all gone...
