Is Supreme Court Right to OK Arizona's 'Business Death Penalty'?

But illegals can not draw unemployment because they work under the table. No legal social security card.

It is not the function of the Supreme Court to decide if a law is "right or wrong". That is what we elect politicians to do.

The Supreme Court's function is to determine if a law in constitutional. That is a completely different function. In this case the Supreme Court determined that the Arizona law in constitutional. Nothing more. "Right or wrong" is not relavent to the Court's proceedings.

I applaud this decision by the Supreme Court and hope that most states pass similar laws. Although, I would rather see federal legislation forcing all employers to use E-Verify for all employees. The federal SAVE Act would accomplish this.

Nothing in this law conflicts or preempts federal law, as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Attorney General claimed. The court ruled the state is on "correct" legal grounds when state law mirrors federal law. This ruling may be a good indicator the SB1070 will be upheld.

Uh-oh. Looks like The Supreme Court (and all the rest of us rule-of-law types) took the Obama-Holder bait.

As a result of this ruling which severely limits the ability of illegals in Arizona to get a job, the Obama administration will consider all illegals in Arizona as being on indefinite layoff -- unemployed entirely through no fault of their own -- and eligible for 99 weeks of unemployment compensation.

Further as a part of Obama's potential for extreme vindictive hubris, their unemployment compensation will be based on the assumption of a $48,000 annual salary, seeing how Arizona was the 48th state. And whatever cash they do manage to still earn under-the-table while collecting unemployment will not be considered income, and not have to be reported as such to either the Arizona Unemployment Bureau or IRS.

When the Arizona illegals sign up for unemployment benefits at Arizona state unemployment offices they will be issued a federal ID card and automatically gain protected status with ICE, and cannot be deported while collecting unemployment.

And if Arizona law enforcement is allowed to ask about the citizenship of anyone stopped for reasonable cause or arrested and find out they have an illegal on their hands, the law enforcement officer will be required to drive the Arizona illegal to the nearest state unemployment office to sign him/her up for 99 weeks -- and protected ICE status.

And to address international fallout of this Supreme Court ruling, two things from Obama:

1) Mexico will receive a foreign aid package equal to three times whatever 'gainfully'-employed illegals in Arizona would have remitted back home to Mexico -- treble damages -- and $50,000 per unemployed illegal -- punitive award; and,

2) Arizona will have to return to its pre-1848 borders, and no longer be part of the US.

Look for a new 99 cent federal charge on your phone bill to finance 1) above.

/sarc off??? With Obama, maybe and probably not. The only way this Supreme Court immigration law decision will actually take effect as intended is if we GET OBAMA THE H. E. DOUBLE-L OUT OF OFFICE IN 2012.

Thanks again to Ro Schless and US News for pointing out the potential for unrestrained hubris on the part of Obama should he gain a second term and no longer be constrained by the need to get reelected:

Seriously now. Everyone, left or right, knows Obama will do whatever it takes to subvert this Supreme Court decision.

The Court made the correct decision. I agree with another poster, mandating E-verify is a good idea. If the feds won't do anything, the states will.

Baseballguy2001 of TX 10:20PM May 26, 2011

Right thing to do...Same for social services, schools, etc..

We can not afford to give free housing, welfare check, etc to those here illegally. No to citizenship as well. Follow normal citizenship procedures. Reagan legalized and look how democrats abused that...

Is Obama right being corrupt on enforcement of immigration laws in order to breed Dem voters through the Jackpot Voter Breeding Program ( JVBP por sus siglas en inglés)?

Ilse of KS 4:47PM May 26, 2011

Of course the Supreme Court made the proper, and moral, ruling on this.

And what is this juvenile nonsense about the "business death penalty" immigration law?

This will not hurt legitimate businesses -- especially if all are abiding by the law --and will be beneficial for working class Americans (including Hispanics) whose wages have been lowered and jobs taken by illegal aliens -- crucial factors that the selfish pro-illegal alien immoral zealots intentionally overlook.

And of course, NO amnesty.

Stan of OH 4:25PM May 26, 2011

Biased much?
