SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE PEOPLE its a real thing and it was instituted for a very good reason.Have you heard of the crusades and how messed up that was?? all the bloodshed over religion? is that what we want again?

And also Marriage is between two people last time i checked so it has no affect on you personal beleifs and is frankly no one elses business its not destructive and should stop being treated as if its some huge threat that we need to be afraid of .

Its a simple question of human rights and the fact that people are so violently against it indicates 1) narrowmind views 2) HUGE amount of BIAS 3)PREJUDICE 4)irrational thinking

and quoting the bible on a social issue is wrong because we have freedom of religion and allowing someone to get married isnt gonna change your right to practice your religion.

In America laws are NOT to be based on religious grounds, so all these scriptures should hold no ground in this battle of morals. But since we're on that subject, the bible also states several times that the boastful ones, also, will not reach the kingdom of heaven.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Romans 1:26-27 - "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion

You're adults and you should have the right to make your own choices but if you're going to use God and the Bible as an argument for your stance, then I will use it too.

To not believe in God or The Bible is one thing but several of you are using it as an excuse and you're using it incorrectly. Several verses in the Bible are hard to comprehend but these are not.

We are very much in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act. We have a better solution to the problem. The government instead should charge a luxury tax on gays. The straight people would not have to pay this tax and the gays would get the regonition that they want. Because the government needs the money!

I checked back and noticed my original comment was deleted and censored, which is one of the reasons I contribute to begin with.

The Orwellian atmosphere surrounding the complex "gay rights" issue is disturbing.

We either have to lie to ourselves and pretend that there are no important, qualitative differences between a man's rectum and a woman's vagina, or we're faced with demonization and ostracization by the bully media and their disingenuous / zealous followers.

My original comment contained absolutely no foul language or hatred, but someone "reported" it anyway.

Religion is not necessary in order to see heterosexuality as ideal and above homosexual attraction / behavior.

The two are not equal, and should not be recognized by law as such.

I do not have anything against homosexuals or transgenders. I have gay friends. Although I have much love and understanding for homosexuals I do not think that it is your right to tell me I have to financially support something my religion and God says is wrong and unconstitutional.

regardless of your personal feelings on the subject, is it right to discriminate and have unequal protections under the law ?

A good test for any discrimination subject is to substitue one of your favored subjects and if you don't feel good about it then it's not good for any subject.

'You will never achieve full equality in the workplace, or life. You will never have what we have, never, ever, ever. We are more worthy than you.

We follow the Bible and the traditional family values that helped conquer this land, and we will conquer you and squash any attempt of equality. '

Wow, at least you are honest about your views, Maggie. I was raised as a Christian and my view of Jesus is that he was compassionate, understanding and inclusive.

Please note this, Jesus was filled with love, not hatred :

Luke 14:12 He said also to the man who had invited him, "When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your kinsmen or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and you be repaid. 14:13 But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind

Luke 14:21 So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.' 14:22 And the servant said, Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.' 14:23 And the master said to the servant, Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.

Until there is a "defense of marriage" act that criminalizes divorce, the "defense of marriage" act is nothing but a persecution of non-heterosexuals. Our taxes and our elected officials should work for our protection, not our persecution. As long as there is even one gay person in this country it should be the duty of this country to protect them, not relegate them to second-class citizen status.

Arguing about this from a "moral" perspective is nonsensical. No arguments can be given to support this topic which don't resort to a question of religious bias. Would anyone be arguing if this was the "defense of pigs" act and it wanted to ban people from pork chops and bacon? Or the "defense of shellfish" act that prohibited the consumption of shrimp and lobster?

No?

I realize that there are too many people out there who latch onto these keystone issues because they don't know what their life will be like without a scapegoat cause. Homosexuals getting happily (or miserably) married won't be the end of your world. And if you honestly believe that two loving people getting married who just happen to be of the same gender is going to ruin your world or your life then I encourage anyone who feels this way to seek psychological counseling.

I confess that I really don't know much about this Gallager, but when I Googled her I discovered that she is an author of five books as well as a strong advocate for DOMA. The comments posted here under her name lack the grammar of a published author. And I have yet to hear of anyone (save for those poor wretches at that 'Baptist' church in Kansas) saying, "Of course not all of the Biblical scriptures will be followed, just select ones that will continue to demonize the GLBT community and their families."

This sounds much more like a pro-homosexual impostor trying to stir up people against DOMA.

In society, we have accepted many changes to our definition of family. We chose to allow movies, then radio and magazines, and then television to define our sexual attitudes--long before the internet. This has resulted in over 50% of marriages ending in divorce, a high rate of unwed pregnancies and abortion, and a rapid increase in high school dropouts. It's also contributed to the unemployment rate. What's worse is that these percentages tend to be the same inside the church as outside! Shame on us!

While I support DOMA, I don't believe the church has much of a leg to stand on. We have "a form of Godliness but deny the power thereof!" New Testament--Look it up!

So while I defend the idea of one man and one woman, I realize that we cannot legislate morality--that's what the book of Romans is all about, especially chapters 7 and 8! We should be focusing on spreading the "Good News" in the same way Jesus did--just start conversations.

Of course that requires at least as much listening as it does talking!
