In the Age of Obama, Republicans Become the Party of Crazy

Lets do the math. Although they act like it, these Rethuglicans didn't just fall off the turnip truck from the Hanford reservation.. (No offense to Turnips) This batch is usually between the ages of 30 and 50, and started doing their political thinking between 10 and 25 years ago. So some were formed during the Raygun idolization period ( The Iran-Contra-Alzheimers period) and gained strength during the Idiots reign of folly, and some were formed during the Clinton years and the republicans contract w America, (Think Tom Delay)

But you think this is bad, wait until the new batch comes along. The twenty somethings of today, intentionally dumbed down with revisionist history, wrapped in flags and carrying bibles and machine guns, spawned under idiot boy and matured watching Sarah Palin, Michelle BAchman and speaker Boner. I can hardly wait.

...That 'journalists' are required to actually read the constitution before referring to it in an article. There is no enshrinement of slavery in the constitution, and the 3/5 rule, does not in fact, reference African slaves. Check it out:

So says the constitution:--

"Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several states which may be included within this union, according to their respective numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole number of free persons, including those bound to service for a term of years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.

The actual Enumeration shall be made within three years after the first meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent term of ten years, in such manner as they shall by law direct. The number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty thousand, but each state shall have at least one Representative; and until such enumeration shall be made, the state of New Hampshire shall be entitled to chuse three, Massachusetts eight, Rhode Island and Providence Plantations one, Connecticut five, New York six, New Jersey four, Pennsylvania eight, Delaware one, Maryland six, Virginia ten, North Carolina five, South Carolina five, and Georgia three. "

So, the application of whole and 3/5 is related to the population count, not the individual's human worth. Slavery was a social status, a forced social condition that many African Americans had paid their way out of, escaped to non slave-holding states, or were granted freedom by those honest individuals whose conscience realized slavery was wrong. With their freedom papers, they were/are free citizens and carried out their lives as free people who were counted as 1 WHOLE PERSON among the whole number of free persons.

Liberal babies:

Tax and Spend, then

Borrow and Spend, then

Print and Spend, then

Lie and Spend, then

Whine, complain, skedaddle and obstruct

While the GOP parent balances the budget

uhhh...I didn't quite catch the "Slavery is Good" section in the constitution...must've missd that one. Hmmm.

While the Founding Fathers may not have been there when the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, they did, however, variously found free states and respect states rights enough to allow these states to differ with the slave states, speak out against slavery, free their own slaves, and end importation of more slaves. The states could not have been united under the Constitution without agreement from some states whose economies were highly dependent upon slavery at the time. Any outright attempt to prohibit slavery at that time would have removed all possibility of uniting the states as one nation. But the 3/5ths rule undermined the power of slave states. There was no outright protection of slavery, and many founders, like Adams, did tirelessly strive to end slavery in their lifetimes. That doesn't mean they succeeded, but the aspiration and effort are historical fact. That's what Rep. Bachman stated. You clearly think your readers to be idiots who would believe your assertion that Bachman was claiming that Adams lived through the Civil War. Who's the whacko again?

Not only are they nuts, but guess they can't read either because Obama's birth certificate has been seen, felt, smelled, studied and verified numerous times over the years by numerous people as well as officials in Hawaii.

Almost as smart as yelling about Rev Wright but then calling Obama a Muslim. Guess they don't know Muslim don't get married in church, baptize their children in church, celebrate Easter or Christmas and attended Trinity Church in Chicago for 20 years.

Well Mr. Schlesinger, where have YOU been. The GOP started becoming wacky with the advent of Raygun! NO less than the esteemed Mr. Conservative himself, Sen. Barry Goldwater, in the late 70s, said the party "is being taken over by a bunch of kooks!!" And the media today refuses to expose them for what they are! When was the last time you saw a story on "starve the beast"?? OR the TWENTY deficit riddled budgets signed by JUST the last 3 GOP presidents?? It seems to me that those in the media are defaulting on their responsibility of informing the people about what is REALLY going on!

"To call names without rational thought is OK for a 5 year old".

No it is not ok. That is why you discipline a child. There is no right way to do the wrong thing. The problem arises when "adults" choose to behave and incite regardless of the rules of civility. It is at that time when people mirror those who disagree with them. Responses are merely the reflection of our views coming back at us. In every instance that "Bow tie Bob" uses the word GOP, Republicans, birther, bagger.... whatever the adjective, place your name in the accusation or supposition to see whether it is civil. Mr. Schlesinger has left civility a long time ago, ergo the lack of respect for his opinions

I applaud your efforts to get Wallbanger to talk specifics, but I don't think he or most of those who live in the Right's fantasyland can do this.

Instead, I think Wallbanger is just the illustration needed to round out Schlesinger's excellent article. When the Left talks policy, the Right responds with heated nothings and dogma. When the Left cites scientific studies, the Right says science is wrong. There is no talking to them.

Max Post of WA 1:15PM February 27, 2011

Despite what you think of the article, to read the comments by Wallbanger of IL and Ippos Harris of NY is a testament to Republicans cutting education.

Back up your claims. If you think the facts are wrong, then tell us what facts are wrong and back it up with a citation.

To call names without rational thought is OK for a 5 year old, but not something one should aspire to in adulthood.

Be an adult for the love of God.
