Nov. 7, 1874 Political cartoonist Thomas Nast first depicts the Republican Party as an elephant in Harper's Weekly.

Nov. 9, 1989 The Berlin Wall officially falls, reuniting East and West Germany after 28 years.

Nov. 10, 1969 Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, and friends debut in Episode One of Sesame Street.

Nov. 11, 1918 Germany signs an armistice, effectively ending World War I at 11 a.m.

Nov. 12, 1936 The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, the longest of its kind, opens to traffic.
