Children of Illegal Immigrants Caught in Education Politics Crossfire

The only reason Dick Durbin, the most liberal D in the Senate, favors this Bill is it will once again recruit more liberal voters to keep the D's in power. This guy never seen a "giveaway" program he didn't like. This Country is getting into a rut where we are finding MORE reasons for people to be dependant on the Government than ever before. We had an issue after President Obama was elected, in Detroit. People read there was assistance being available to help with Utility bills. They interviewed one lady who was "there to get some Obama money" and when asked where he got it she "didn't know and didn't care" he was going to pay their Utility bills. This is the mentality this administration is building.

Well Susan, I would fall right in line with your requirements.

My parents brought me here unfortunately without the right paperwork around 22 years ago. I'm 25 years now and I'm about to finish my BS in a 4 year University, we have never asked for any public assistance because my parents made it clear to me that they are not leaches or will ever view as public leaches. They file they taxes every year. My mom has binders over binders of volunteer work in Elementary schools, she was even a co-founder of the parent center where I went for grade school.

I graduated at the top 3% of my high school, and if I would have had my paperwork I would have gotten a full 4-year ride to an out of state university.

It has been a constant struggle and sacrifice to continue my studies. I really hope the DREAM Act passes and I can go to Med School.

Its a win/win situation. We become professionals and we start working and paying taxes. We speak/write the language, are educated and are assimilated. Give us a chance to become productive citizens.

A recent Migrant study concludes that only about 1/3 of those eligible for the Dream Act has the resources to become a citizen. The current Dream act would give those 35 and younger 6 years to become citizens.

That means that 2/3 of those who would qualify for the Dream Act will now have 6 more years to have anchor babies and create general havoc in our land. They will never achieve citizenship.

I would support a Dream Act for those who graduated in the top third of their high school class if they are entitled to no public assistance of any kind. I believe the Hispanic associations and Univision are offering financial aid to those undocumented students.

The DREAM Act can only benefit this country, young bright students are ready and willing to offer so much of themselves to this nation. They have proven their potential and are only asking for an opportunity. Would we rather have a bright engineer working at a fast food restaurant when they could be offering innovating ideas to shore up America's middle class? America will greatly benefit from giving these students an opportunity, not a free ride, but an opportunity to excel professionally. Congress needs to make the correct decision, stop the hate and allow these students to finish their education in order to create a better America.

It surprises me how American Citizens do not see the benefits of educating their residents (no matter their legal status, they live here.) I want security and my borders secure, because I do not want any terrorist coming to attack my country. However, this is not an immigration issue, is an education issue. As a teacher I have been blessed to meet undocumented children that are hard working students that give their 200 percent in everything they do. They are not only excellent students, but good members of society. Most of them volunteer in their communities without receiving anything. On the other hand, I have seen many American Citizens that do not have the same love and appreciation of education as many undocumented students do. This as a teacher breaks my heart. Because I want to educate children no matter their race, culture or legal status. Because I believe that education is crucial element. With education we could prevent many problems. Please fellow citizens, read THE DREAM ACT and do not deny a human being the opportunity to be educated.

Our nation is in need of these individuals. Let's pass the DREAM Act now.

Beth of CA 2:24AM August 12, 2010

We need to stop trying to deport these individuals who only want to contribute in a greater scale to our society.

We need to pass the DREAM ACT now. These humans cannot wait any longer. We are talking about people. We are talking about kids who grew up in our soils. They are America by nurture and they want to stay here because they want to serve their country.

It is also illogical to think that it's feasible to deport every undocumented immigrant. We must pass the DREAM Act as the first step to a CIR! Because that’s something we all could agree on. We need a Comprehensive Immigration Reform, and the DREAM Act it’s the first step to achieve it! It’s not only in our very own interest, but in our Nation’s interest.

I think it's time for senators to step up and pass the DREAM Act.

I support the DREAM Act and I believe it will bring a lot of benefits to our communities and to our beautiful nation.

Some of the Benefits will be:

1. Economically- When we give these students a chance to prove that they want to give back to their communities... They will be eligible to work in positions that they studied for. This means that the DREAM Act will help them to contribute even more to this nation. (Since all of them will have at least a bachelor's degree the taxes revenues will increase significantly.)

2. Education- as I mentioned, many of them will have at least a bachelor’s degree. The DREAMers are one of the most brilliant and dedicated students I've ever met. They will help us to increase the numbers of our graduates. A more educated nation can't hurt anyone. We also have to take into account that they will not be getting a "free ride" of education, as many assume. They will not be competing vs. America, but will be contributing to our beautiful Nation.

3. Globalization-Since many of these students have graduated from college or will be graduating pretty soon. The numbers of our graduates will increase. Therefore, we might be graduating more people than China is. This will also help at a global scale because these young people are not only highly educated, but they want to contribute to their country. (We cannot afford to loose many talented individuals.)

For these reasons and many, I believe that we need the DREAM Act.

It's time for us to demand what it's not only logical, but what it's right!

Ellie of AZ 3:38AM August 11, 2010

People need to get their facts straight that these students are not asking for a "free ride” through college. They are willing to work as hard as any born American to pay through college if given the opportunity. The DREAM Act will not give free money or benefits to any individual, why keep lying? it will simply give them the opportunity to be a resident of their state after they meet the required time period to be a resident of that state. they don't automatically get in state tuition! Besides these students have been technically living in-state way longer than any born citizen coming out of state..... makes no sense.

Another thing, the DREAM Act will not Grant citizenship to anyone under it. It will however grant conditional residency. After aprox a 5 year waiting period then, these students can try to apply for citizenship, but not until then. so They don't automatically become Citizens of this great country.

The DREAM Act would most likely NOT encourage more young immigrants to come here, because it's a one time deal. And the requirements are not something that can be done in a short time period.

It is necessary to pass the DREAM Act this year, to protect those who are here to make a great contribution to society. Unfortunately America is loosing on a great opportunity to move forward. It is not because these students came to the States “illegally” that is hurting America, it’s because of the delay to keep these students in America “legally” that we are having hard times in all areas of society. WE need to pass the DREAM ACT this year in order to move forward.

Isra of AZ 2:36AM August 11, 2010

Students who would benefit from the DREAM Act are by no means trying to take anything away from anyone. They are simply asking for the opportunity to contribute to their communities, because for these students, America is their home and its cities and towns their communities.

Furthermore, why can't the DREAM Act stand alone? It would be a great stepping stone toward much needed immigration reform. It would be a great step down a road that we have been too afraid and close minded to go down.
