Is the Tea Party Racist?

July 14, 2010 RSS Feed Print

Members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People have passed a resolution that condemns what they feel is racism in the Tea Party movement. "We take no issue with the Tea Party," Ben Jealous, NAACP president and CEO said in a statement. "We take issue with the Tea Party's continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements." The NAACP also claims that Tea Party activists have engaged in racist behavior by waving signs that degrade African Americans and President Obama specifically. Tea Partyers have denounced the NAACP's action as unfounded and unfair, and Sarah Palin called the charge "false and appalling." Thomas Jefferson Street blogger Peter Roff agrees, and says the NAACP is using the same kind of cheap broad brush tactics that figures like Bull Connor used during the 1960s.

What do you think? Is the Tea Party racist? Or does the NAACP's charge misconstrue the group's real message? Take our poll and post your thoughts below.

So where was the tea party 5-6 years ago? Since their goal/objective is to reduce the deficit and lower taxes (among other things). I definitely believe that some of the tea party advocates are racists and violent. Some of things that are being said are inappropriate and intolerable. Everyone has a right to his or her beliefs/opinions but we must have tact and respect for those we disagree with. If we ever want change we will have to unite and work together, it's disheartening that in 2011 we're still discussing racism. We have to move pass this!!

Is Rev. Wright , Luis Farrakan , Al Sharpton , Jessie Jackson , the NAACP , the New Blackpanthers racist ?

Why is it always the Tea Party people , conservatives or anyone that doesn't happen to agree with Obama and his progressive agenda the racist ?

My definition of the Tea Party. Disparaging people all of them with an ax to grind and now a soap box to shout it from.

They hate anyone who isn't just like them; which includes most educated Liberty loving Americans, any of of millions of disabled who they think are getting a 'free ride' and last and most important the ILLEGALS.

But ask them point blank if they recognize that President (no matter who) is their Commander-In-Chief, they'll say they only recognize THE CONSTITUTION. Their arguments are so weak an educated person would fain to involve themself.

Let's hope they go the way of bell-bottoms...
