Democratic governors expressed deep concerns this weekend over the Obama administration's suit against Arizona's new immigration law, warning that it could cost the party in crucial elections in November. "It is such a toxic subject," said Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen. "Universally the governors are saying, 'We've got to talk about jobs, and all of a sudden we have immigration going on.'" Thomas Jefferson Street blogger Bonnie Erbe says the administration should pay dearly at the ballot box for its bungling of the immigration issue. But Attorney General Eric Holder said that the federal government was leading in its strongest argument in the suit filed against the law, which requires police to question people about their immigration status while enforcing other laws if there's reason to suspect they're in the United States illegally.
What do you think? Is the administration's suit against Arizona's law toxic? Or is the law itself toxic? Take our poll and post your thoughts below.
