This is the reason people don't understand open carry because of articles like this. First only law abiding citizens will have the guts to open carry. Criminals never open carry. We open Carey to deter criminals from trying to commit a crime in the first place . If a robber enters an establishment and finds its patrons armed do you really think he will try to continue? I don't think so. We have a right to protect ourselves and our families from robbers, murders, and rapists that is why I open carry and always will. As for scaring the public they need to understand why we carry its for all our safety , its idiotic to say that anyone would start a shootout over a wrong order or a simple dispute , there are very violent criminals out there and I plan to be ready if the try to harm me or my familyor even my neighbours you know I will intervene in a crime against a complete stranger because its the right thing to do . Think about that if every law abiding citizen was openly armed I bet most crimes would never happen.

A gun in and of itself is NOT a dangerous weapon. A gun is a an inanimate object. People seem to think it has the ability to just inflict harm all by itself. It is the person that is dangerous. Statistics are very clear showing a decrease in crime in areas where a proliferation of lawful gun carrying Americans exist. Criminals may be dumb, but they're not stupid. They will carefully choose their target, and move on if they think they are armed. Gun free zones provide them a haven to wreak havoc on the law abiding. Wake up and use your educated mind for something other than spin.

Because we are not used to see guns every second of every day is the reason why people become nervous or up on their guard. Now when people complain about "gun violence" what are they actually referencing? Cause I am sure that 9 times out of 10 that most "gun violence" is result of people either getting guns illegally or the people who buy them and dont know how to properly use them. Most Americans are patriotic and believe in our laws and constitution, so if they feel more secure with either walking the dog, going grocery shopping, or just everyday routines while carry a fire arm why should they be denied that. Thats part of our American right. Just like Freedom of speech that people love to use against our right to bear arms, so if they have to right to speak I should have the right to carry if I feel like it.

To the author,

You should assume that everyone is potentially armed at all times. I carry, and personnally prefer that people open carry. I spent plenty of time in combat in Afghanistan as a member of an infantry unit in the U.S. Army. I learned a little about human nature in that environment. That is why I choose to carry a fire arm. I consider it my right to protect myself, and my responsibility to protect those around me, especially women, children and the elderly. If I'm under equipped to preform my duties to my country, and those innocent people around me, than I have failed to live up to my responsibilities, and am less of a man. I'd gladly give my life for my country, but I'd much rather the bad guy give up his life.

I see no need to curse or otherwise chastise you for your views, but I compell you to change your very vocal stance. There are many like me, and for that, you should feel a lot safer while going about your daily activities.

FBI study of violent criminals (cop killers) showed, of those studied, 100% concealed their weapons without holsters, and with most being concealed in the front of the pants (criminals seem to eschew holsters). All guns were purchased illegally with the exception of one. They practiced more than the police, and had a higher hit ratio. They were not even slightly deterred by laws prohibiting guns (laughed when asked).

Yes!!

do family's get on edge when a police officer walks into a store to purchass an item? I would think not! so whats the problem!!! i know im not exact on this percentage. But i am pretty sure about 99%

of people open carrying. Are doing so legaly.. why would you openly display an illeagal firearm? chances are you would not.

if you were being attacked whould you spray the assailant with pepper spray?

another example that hit right at home here.

if you were being attacked the assailant was weilding a rock! pointed to the direction of your upper body (HEAD) and you were carrying your firearm i have no problem saying you'd unholster your firearm to try and deter the assailant!

on another note...

Firearm's are undoubtly always going to apart of our society

we are American's!!! We have built our whole foundation with firearms and hammers!

Frank you sure seem quick to anger, and over somebody merely speaking their mind. If such a small thing angers you, then it calls into question your emotional stability. I do not think you or anyone like you, should be allowed to carry a gun.

And as far as the wild west goes, I seriously doubt any of the "news reports" or "statistics" from way back then are reliable.

JC of TX 6:19AM November 05, 2011

if the idiot in this artical would shut her mouth long enough to do a little research, she would find that in the old west, not as many people committed crimes due to the fact that everyone carried firearms and were allowed to use them in defense of self and property. it was not a wild shooting rampage 7 days a week. if the open display of firearms bothers people, then disarm the police. then disarm the military. see how that sounds, you dumbass. for the life of me, i cant believe these people are allowed to reproduce.

This article is retarded when have you seen somebody openly carrying rob someone or do anything violent. Its a massive deterrent.
