A Flat-tax lets the RICH off the hook and soaks the poor and middle-class. Duh. Robin hood in reverse.

Income tax was 1% for the poor and 7% for the filty rich. Now look at it.

Abolish the Income Tax, the IRS, and the Fed... Then we can have real Free Market economics.

A postcard got u sold on this crap? Are u kidding me? Wanna buy a bridge!

As someone who has been supporting 4 kids at just over $18,000 a year -- who is eligible for thousands of dollars in "refunds" while paying NO federal tax -- say YES to a flat tax.

The Ulbrich arguement against flat tax is designed to produce fear. She avoids logic at all costs.

JerryB2 of MD 4:55PM April 12, 2010

A horrible argument. Essentially she is saying 'We have lots of unfair taxes. So let's keep one that is horribly complicated but slightly less unfair, as it may offset the unfairness of all the others. Oh, and the only thing that motivates me to give to charity is the tax break!

What hollow BS.

If taxes were the motivation, why did it take years, and much public pressure, to get the world's wealthiest man, Bill Gates, to give to charity?

This is an economist feathering her own bed. What would all the CPA's, tax lawyers, tax accountants AND ALL THE ECONOMISTS THEY HIRE do if there was a flat tax? They'd have to find socially productive day jobs.

Untrued and untried... that did not stop the health care bill and taxes to fund it. Get serious. We need to find a way to get us our of our fiscal mess. Maybe the fixed tax will do just that.

oscar james of AL 3:53PM April 12, 2010

Yes our tax system is enormously complicated and getting more so. The reality is that our political class are like addicts. They are addicted to our money and use it to distribute "largesse" to ensure they continue to keep their jobs. They need an intervention!! (Somebody stop me!!) The power of incumbency is too great and if you need proof of that , if Ted Kenneday were alive, no way he would have lost his reelection the way Coakley did. Term limits, its good enough for our governors and Presidents - throw the bums out every 12 years at most.

Peter J Walshe of PA 3:25PM April 12, 2010

Amazing! Do you see how how the mind can rationalize and justify anything? My question is SIMPLE. What IS a fair tax??? It should be obvious that the system we have now is NOT working. Democrats insist on taking more money from the wealthy. This only drives them to other countries. Who are left to pay then? Hmmmm, the Middle Class? Our system definitely employs a lot of people. God Forbid, a flat tax might mean lazy bum accountants and tax preparers would have to find a real job. Regardless, any tax system is NOT going to fix the irresponsible spending in Washington. When the rich decide to go elsewhere, the tax revenues decrease, joblessness increases, what happens then? Who will Obama blame? The Republicans? Why not?
