Flat Tax Is Class Warfare

The courts are ruling more often in favor of those people who have declined to file a 10 W-40 Federal Income Tax form since there is NO LAW that requires Americans to pay income tax. That's right, no law. Only a Constitutional Amendment can make that a law.

Like everyone else here and most economists I agree that your arguments are weak, misleading, and without merit. Even if one accepts your arguments, I propose that ANYTHING is better than the 75,000 pages that is the current tax code.

Not Sure your argument hold up. You spend more you pay more. Hence, the wealthy spend more so they pay more. Seems pretty straight forward to me. We do we insist on making things so complicated. Yes the poor should pay something 48% of the population pays no effective taxes. Is that not an incentive to hire politicians that promise to steal more form the rich? Why do we not consider income redistribution (Entitlement Programs) stealing?

Maybe I am misunderstanding this a bit but if you get a deduction for giving to a charity then really what's the difference if I give it to the IRS and they give the money to the charity I say maybe the flat tax isn't right but when I pay 28 percent and the wealthy are only paying 8 its just wrong if I had a 20 percent raise maybe I would be able to afford retirement or an over inflated price on a home were I live the home owners are charging rent that's more then the payment and utilities cost for that house

I'm not sure I buy all your augments. Yes- I would buy a house without the mortgage tax deduction simply because I want to live in house. Yes- Medical benefits as well as other benefits that have a monetary value should be taxed as income.

There are advantages to the flat tax I like. 1) It has the appearance of being fair. I've never heard of a tax loophole mentioned in a positive light. 2) It removes the advantage of hired guns to "nuance" the deductions and returns that low and middle income people don't have. 2) It has a self enforcing quality to it. 3) I can understand it and buy into it.

I am largely in favor of a flat tax and I am middle income. I do not believe for a second that flat tax is a way for the rich to pay less taxes. The rich have more deductions and can shelter money through avenues not accessible by lower and middle class. I for one am ready to end the game for those who know how to play the system.

Yep, its the rich attacking the poor!

Some lower class citizens do pretty well in the good o US of A. As a matter of fact if you are at the bottom with no income & not even a citizen we will make sure you get a collage degree. Check it out. I only wish that some of my minotity friends and non minority friends Children could reap those same benifitts. If you make between 40,000.00 & 120,000.00 just forget it. You arent going to get any help. The way it looks is that in the future ony the illegal & the rich only will benifit from our grecious government.. Obama is trying but it seem that he ran into a big R.wall. Come on Tax the rich guy as much as you do the x middle class because it looks like im on the way to the low-lower class. I cant believe my x-party the Republicans" Would do anything to harm my country".

I really dont think that the American Way is to tax anyone who makes less than 110,000.00 should pay more tax than someone that 300,000.00 or more. The less income you have the less writeoffs you have. Because of the Alternitive Minimum Tax if I write off my travel cost, state income tax, cost of employment, or even too many children I can owe more taxes. I dont write off anything that increases my taxes anymore. An intence study of AMT will reveal this to you, but it takes endurance & its not logical.

Bruce Barton of NC 4:54PM October 09, 2011

Sure a flat tax would be more fair but it will never happen. The reason is that the IRS would have a massive layoff, also all the people that have jobs related to the tax industry would be out of work. The wealthy would never go for it. Just look at SS, A total of 15% of your check is contributed from your check & emplyer untill you make approxamately 110,000.00 dollers. The wealthy can pay the maximun in days to weeks. Instant 7.62%--15% raise. Come on people cant you see through the smoke? The AMT was susposed to control the inequity in 1969 but people withless than 100,000.00 income have been ripped off by that scam for 10 years!!!

I'm not sure of the point of disparaging the professor or how that improves one's logic and disproves another's. My guess is that it doesn't.
