In an op-ed in today's Washington Post, Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch condemned Democrats for attempting to use reconciliation to "jam" the healthcare reform bill through the Senate, saying that it would be "against the will of the American people" and would "degrade our system of government." Thomas Jefferson Street blogger John Aloysius Farrell disagrees, noting that the bill already passed through the Senate in December and that the Democrats have done nothing undemocratic. He says the fault lies with the Republicans, who should end their filibuster, let the legislation pass, then take their case to the voters in November.
